When I press the power button to turn the computer on, nothing is displayed on the LCD screen. Power light, Hard Drive light, and Battery Light all appear normally. I hear the fan blowing internally and hard drive spinning, but nothing appears on the screen. This problem first happened periodically, but then after leaving the computer for several hours and trying again, the display appeared normally without any problems. There is no damage to the screen. It just does not appear at boot up.

Check the resolution of the screen by right clicking on an empty part of the screen and choosing properties. Go to settings and make the resolution 1078 x 768 and hit apply and ok. There are instances when the resolution will change from a software update etc. that is not supported by the monitor or graphics card.

No display after reboot windows

If it seems like your system is running whereas you hear fans running, hear the hard drive running, see lights, heard the hard drive click during bootup, but there is nothing on the lcd screen then try the following:
1) Try hooking a external monitor to your laptop. It can be any type of monitor even one of the old style fat crt monitors as long as it has a vga cable to connect to the laptop. There is a sequence of keys you might have to hit to get the display to show on the external. Most times you hit the FN (Function key) and hold it while you hit the corresponding F1 thru F12 key that is for display. Usually the correct key will say CRT/LCD or it might have a display icon on it. If the image displays on the external monitor that means the video card is good.
2). Remove the external monitor and reboot the computer again. Now when it is done booting take a flashlight an shine it on the lcd screen. You are looking to see if you can faintly see the icons on the screen. If they are there but barely visible then the LCD Inverter is bad. The LCD Inverter is located at the bottom of the lcd screen just above the keyboard and the Strip around the lcd screen covers it. You'll have to take the lcd apart to get to it.
3) If you don't see anything when you shine a flashlight on the desktop, then the lcd screen has to be replaced. However, sometimes the cable on the back of the lcd screen has come aloose or just needs reseating, so unplug the cable and put it back then see if it shows an image.

Read Below if it is not booting at all when you press the power button.
Laptops don't boot for the following reasons: 1) Bad Power Cord. 2) Bad DC Power Jack where the power cord plugs into the laptop. 3) Static Charge Buildup. 4) Bad Motherboard.

The above 4 reasons are when you press the power button and absolutely nothing happens. You hear no fans running, no disk drive running, no one time clicking sound on the CD Drive and No light for a second or two when the CD drives click. In the case of a motherboard issue sometimes you will hear beep sounds or see blinking lights. Those beep sounds and blinking lights tells the technician what is going on with your motherboard and why it will not boot. If you see the blinking lights or hear beeps count them.

So you have a power light which means your power cord and dc power jack is good. So lets see if you have a static charge buildup.

Remove the Power Cord and the Battery from the laptop, then Press and Hold the Power Button for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds put the power cord back into the laptop, but leave the battery out. Press the power button to see if it boots. If it does you had a Static Charge Buildup and it's ok to put your battery back in. If it does not you more than likely have an issue with your motherboard.

No display on hp 6345s laptop

Try to turn off your system. Then remove the cables and battery on the laptop. Then press and hold the power button for 8 secs. Then, reinsert the cables and battery on the laptop. Then, press the power button to turn on the laptop. If the HDD light flickers continuously, then the problem is on the Hard Drive. One way of resolving it is to Re-Seat the Hard Drive. If you know how to tear down the system, here's how. Turn off the laptop, remove the cables and battery at the back. Remove the screws located at the corners of it. Then remove and reinsert back the Hard Drive. If it still fails, contact ACER to immediately replace the Hard Drive. If you don't know how to tear down the laptop, then call ACER also for repair....

I have a dell inspiron 1100 approx 7 yrs old. Try to start up, no display. LCD for power and battery (ac power) light up, no hard drive light. Reseated everything, still nothing. Also shuts itself down...

Hi,

Since there is no hard drive light, you could try unplugging it first, and try to boot and see if there would be any display on the LCD. If yes, you already isolated the problem that it is the Hard drive causing the " no display".

Try to do also the following: (draining flea power)

1. Remove the battery and ac adapter
2. Press and hold the power button for at least 10sec.
3. Put back the battery and ac adapter
4. Turn on the computer

Hope to hear from you soon.

My compaq presario c765tu laptop suddenly turned off while i was working with that.then when i tried to turn on, only the power light comes, fan moves and dvd drive opens but the screen remains off.nothing...

If the problem is with the RAM or Hard drive then atleast you will get the access to the BIOS and this is not related to the hard drive or RAM as there is no display on the notebook.
If the Quick launch buttons are glowing then perform the following:
1. Remove the notebook battery and disconnect the AC adapter. 2. Press and hold the power button for a minute. 3. Reconnect the battery and AC adapter then try to turn on the notebook.
If the display still doesn't appear then, connect the notebook to external monitor and check the display on it. If there is any display on external monitor then the issue is with the LCD screen. If there is no display on external monitor then the notebook needs to be diagnosed by a technician at the service center.

Eee pc won't turn on (I think have already posted this, not sure)

Sounds like a classic case of hardware failure!!!!!!! possibly your motherboard, start by removing the battery, hard drive and optical drive.
disconnect the laptop monitor and connect the laptop to an external monitor.
remove the memory modules clean the brass contacts with a eraser and place back in the machine 1 at a time to check to see if they work, remember to plug in the AC power suppy, if you see the post screen then its a memory issue and you can then reconnect your laptop monitor to see if it lights up, if everything works but the monitor then its the inverter or backlight that has blown and is easily repairable saving you money on a brand new screen
