4-pin to 4-pin IEEE 1394 iLink FireWire Cable dv out to laptop Connect and transfer home movie from your digital camcorder to Notebook computer.
You will need a Firewire port on your computer, also known as a DV port or IEEE 1394, to use this cable. This is NOT a USB cable.
This DV cable will connect your laptop (notebook) NOTE: for some models, becuase of no DV jack on the body, this cable connects to docking station/cradle instead of connecting directly to your camcorder.
I had this same problem, It is the cable itself, check under system properties/hardware in control panel of windows and make sure the firewire ieee is working properly also. pretty sure you need a new cable though...goodluck
You are on the right track. The best way to hook your computer to your camcorder is the firewire connection. There are 4 pins on the small connection on your cam, but on the PC the firewire connection is bigger and has six pins on that end. You should get the best cable that you have access to, because speed is everything when you are dealing with video, I would get the 800mps. Just make sure to check your connections on the PC and the Cam to make sure you get the right cable.
I just discovered that this is the same reason I could not transfer the video for my cannon ZR950 the menu options on the cam has a setting to turn tv on and off
Your PC must have DV port for DV signal.
You can connect your camera with PC through USB port only.
Try to find DV card for PC in local computer market.
Generally when you connect the camera via USB Windows XP and Vista activate native drivers and the camera becomes visible under "My Computer" (XP) or "Computer" (Vista) as a removable drive. However, probably will not be visible by capture software. In that case you would need to use a DV interface cable otherwise known as firewire and have the camcorder in playback mode.
all you have to do is try to connect your cam corder in win xp operating system..if its work in that OS, im sure your cam corder is for win xp only not for a win vista os.. just try it..thanks..
1. CHECK CAMCORDER CONNECTIONS AND SETTINGS.
1. The DV Camcorder is turned on and connected by the power adapter (not battery)
2. The Camcorder is in Play Mode.
3. The IEEE 1394 cable is properly connected from you camcorder to the IEEE 1394 card.
If you have checked these steps and the camcorder is still not detected, then the camcorder driver is most likely not loaded.
2. CHECK DEVICE MANAGER TO VERIFY THAT CAMCORDER DRIVER IS LOADED.
1. Go to Device Manager by clicking on Programs > Settings > Control Panel > System. (In Windows 2000 you have the additional steps of clicking on Hardware > Device Manager).
2. Under the device heading called Imaging Devices, you should see a device called "Samsung DV Camera or DV Camcorder".
If you have an exclamation point "!" on this device, highlight the device by clicking on it and then click the Remove and Refresh buttons for Windows 98SE and ME. For Windows 2000, click on the uninstall icon, then click on the scan for new hardware icon. Even if the camcorder device does not have an exclamation point "!" on it, you can remove it and reload it.
With Windows ME and Windows 2000, and Windows XP, the 1394 camcorder driver is built into the operating system by Microsoft and is already loaded on your system. With Windows 98SE the files are located on the 98SE CD in the Win98 folder.
If the device is not listed, please check all of items in step #1 above. If it continues to be a problem, there may be a problem with the:
1. Camcorders firewire port
2. 1394 cable
3. The 1394 host controller card
Samsung does not support Firewire Components. You must consult the manufacturer of your Firewire product(s).
