If IPOD is working fine other than the connection problems, then the fault lies with either your cable or your USB port...
if its not working perfectly then try this: 1.slide hold switch to on and off a couple of times and then let it rest to off position 2.press and hold menu and select buttons together till an apple logo appears on screen. 3.Connect to system and this time it should be detected in recovery mode. 4.Restore and it should work fine.

My itunes won't detect my ipod nano 4gb

well sometimes what people do is that they plug in the usb cable before the computer is on and it wont recognize the ipod. You have to turn off the computer and wait till it is on and then plug it in.

My Computer and iTunes does not recognize my iPod

Have you tried installing the ipod program cd from your ipod on a separate file. Under a different username? It may be conflicting with the older model ipod protocols. If that dosen't work try going to apple.com for further assistance.
