Try this. This worked for me, I'm running XP, but download the RAD Video Game Tools from here. http://www.radgametools.com/bnkdown.htm
Its a tiny install. The problem I figure is that the computer has the inability to play the video files in the "D:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty - World at War\main\video" folder.
Therefore this causes the problem with startup because it plays a video right when you start the game. Try it out let me know!
