I had the same problem. I solved it by first backing up all the music on the device, then reformatting the internal flash memory, then copying my music back on to the . I am a linux user, so this was done with "mkdosfs /dev/sdb"; on windows, I bet it is even easier (right-click sort of menu item).
I hope this helps someone -- it really was an irritation when it happened to me just before a 15 hour drive.

the rca logo flashes and dose nothing else
I've had mine since christmas and it's started to do the same.
My RCA M202E malfunctioning. RCA M202E restarts or
resets repeatedly, the RCA logo flashing on and off again and
occasionally getting to the "Please wait..." message. RCA M202E finally starts, but then changing the volume, changing the song, or
trying to navigate to another song by menu often causes it to
reset all over again. Even if I simply let RCA M202E run, it will eventually reset several times in a row before starting at the beginning of the files once again. The device has started to ignore all the controls at times.
I have tried:
Powering off and removing the batteries for several minutes to half an hour.
Formatting the drive (have formatted it three times now).
Using the memory erasing program Eraser to overwrite the unused space (which was all the space after the format).
This website is the first page that Google identifies for RCA M202E troubleshooting that even had anything to do with this problem. If it were a computer, I'd start it in Safe Mode and use System Restore because the device worked fine a week ago, but that doesn't seem to be an option. I will continue searching--maybe someone somewhere else knows something.
