Cord rewinder on a Electrolux model C102J vacum cleaner

I have a Electrolux C102J vacum cleaner. The cord was pulled out to far and the cord won't rewind. I have the back off but it looks like I have to take the unit apart to get the rewinder out. Where are the push points to get the unit apart? Or can I fix the rewinder in the unit? The cord was pulled out to far and won't rewind. Is there something that I can just push to unlock the rewinder? Is it an easy task or is this something I should be taking to a repair service center?

Hi there Johnd, SmartAlec from Nelsonvacuums.com.au here. I fix vacuums full time for a living and the first time i had this problem with the australian version of this vacuum it tok me an hour to pull it apart and back together. now i have done a dozen or so it is about a 30minute operation. I dont know what you rate your technical skill level at but i give this machine a 8/10 for hardness. It is most likely that the cord has jumped off the reel and is wedged so it shouldn't require parts but it cant be done without nearly stripping it down. There is no reset or similar for the reel. My advice unless your very confident take it to a repairer. It would be 1/2 - 1hr of labour charge only i would think.
Hope this helps.
SmartAlec

My cord wont rewind

The rewind tension spring may be broken or fully extended. Try to yank hard on the cord and pull toward you with some force. Pull until the line will no longer come out and if it won\'t recoil then it needs to be repaired.

My power cord will not retract back into the housing< i would like to open the back of the unit but there no screws or bults to due so. How do you open the back of model c151d

Try standing vacuum on end, then gently tugging and releasing cord. This generally will retract it.
There are many problems that can result in disassembly and reassembly by an untrained person, including shock and fire. For those and other reasons, I don't recommend trying this yourself. Take it to the nearest Aerus Electrolux store for repair.
The back of the vacuum can only be removed by separating the top and bottom portions of the canister. The cord winder will need to be removed and the wires all disconnected. The cordwinder is then taken apart and the cord rewound and set for proper tension for rewinding. If the cord is simply stuck due to having been pulled out too far, this is generally not necessary.

How do I repair my Electrolux Lux 9000 cannister electrical cord retraction? It was pulled out as far as it would go and now it doesn't retract.

First, try standing vacuum on it's back end. Gently pull on cord and release. Try this a few times.
If this doesn't work, you'll need to take it to an authorized Aerus Electrolux store and let the service tech repair it. Although it's relatively easy to disassemble, reassembling correctly is trickier. I've had several machines come into the shop disassembled because the owner couldn't figure out how to put it together again.
Also, when taking the cord rewinder apart, there's a risk of breaking tabs that hold it together.

The chord will not recoil

Try standing it up and gently pull on cord and release. It may rewind after a few tries. If it does fine, then just be careful how far you pull it out.
If it still won't rewind, you need to take it to an authorized Aerus Electrolux store and have the service tech have a look. There are a few things in the rewind assembly that could be causing it not to.

Hoover UH70120 WindTunnel TSeries problems with the cord. im a tech savy guy and have been trying to fix a cord after it was pulled to far out and now wont auto retract, but just cant find a way to pull...

You will probably have to replace the cord winding mechanism. I have never had any luck trying to repair one. Cord retracters are great when they work but it seems like they always go bad before too long. On many units you can't even replace the cord if you get a bad spot in it, you have to buy a new cord reel which can get expensive.

The cord on my electrolux Epic 6500 has been pulled too far out and will not rewind. How can I access the cord reel to rewind?

There are two keys holding the body together, underneath the bumpers on the side of the vac. With the bag door open these keys when gripped with pliers will slide forward to release the body panels.

Before opening the vac, gently push the cord back inside the housing.
2 possibilities:
If the spool rotates and allows the cord to push in , the body must be disassembled, and the cord winder removed and the spring reloaded. This is tricky work. you will need to wind the entire cord onto the spool, then load 3.5 rotations onto the coil spring for tensioning, then reassemble. It's a bit like working on a land mine of you're new at it. Wear safety glasses.

BUT if the spool is locked from the outside and the cord wont push in or pull out, a fine , long blade screwdriver can be inserted diagonal to the body through the cord slot and with luck you can lift a cog of the spool releasing tension and the rewind will work. try that first , but be gentle . You must release the cord spool allowing a a dog ear catch cog to release inside by gently lifting upwards.
Post back to say how you made out,
Or look for an AERUS Electrolux service shop.

Hi, I have replaced the electric cord on Electrolux Lux Royal vacuum, but the rewind that retracts the cord does not pull it in. The coil spring looks ok but it will not pull the cord back in, any suggestions please.
Thanks Dave Ryder

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
The question I have is it the Electrolux or the Royal cordwinder, if the cordwinder is sprung you may have to get a new one or a good used one, it’s been a while since I have done a cordwinder and I have seen it done, but I know when you remove the cordwinder you need to lock in the spring so that it does not loose it tension and re-coil ability. You may want to ask your local vac dealer to see if you need to repair or replace. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

Automatic cord return

if it is anything like an electrolux there is a coiled spring inside that free wheels around a hub. pulling the cord too far out makes the spring slip on the free spinning hub. you may need to take apart the vac and rewind the spring.
