Hi there

Make sure the discs you use are Blue Ray , this is what is causing the problem. You can also have the PS3 chipped to play normal DVD's and Discs

If you just updated the firmware and the games stoped working after that then the firmware is corrupt

try to update the firmware again.

You can also try cleaning the lens as best said

It might be problem with the lens, if cleaning doesnt fix it then the lens would need to be replaced in the drive.

Im sure you have warranty and in that case you can get it repaired or replaced for free.

Try cleaning the lens with the following steps

Things You’ll Need:

Step 1:
Make sure the laser pickup lens is actually the problem. There are a wide variety of reasons that a DVD player might not read a disc efficiently. The disc could be scratched or dirty, for example. Test the DVD player with a disc that you know works before trying to clean the lens.

Step 2:
Purchase or borrow a lens cleaner disc and try it first. You can find these things really cheap at any large department store. They usually get the job done well. However, you may need to clean the lens manually if the store-bought cleaner fails.

Step 3:
Remove the outer casing of the DVD player. Remove the screws that mount the top casing onto the bottom of the DVD player and slide the top casing off. This will expose the DVD deck, which houses the laser pickup lens.

Step 4:
Find the lens. The lens will be glass and under the DVD clamp. The lens will probably have a blue tint to it. If you are having trouble finding the lens, you could shine a light on the components and watch for the reflection.

Step 5:
Use a cotton swab and some isopropyl alcohol to gently wipe the lens. Just a quick scrub will do. Dry the laser pickup lens with the other end of the swab.

Step 6:
Give the lens a few seconds to dry and replace the covering of the DVD player. Test the efficiency of the player. If necessary, repeat the process.

I know why this problem is occuring! Becoz it will read only original disk you cannot use normal DVD/CD. It requires only PS3 Original discs! If you wanna use normal downloaded data to be READ. There is extra circuit available at the technicians shop which will play and read all the normal or home burned discs.

Playstation 3 not playing games but will play blu ray discs

Make sure that your firmware is updated correctly. Also make sure the games are the correct region for the unit you're playing on. You may have an incorrect region setup on the PS3. PS3 games are region locked, either being PAL or NTSC. If the PS3 is set to read PAL (by being set to a region that is PAL, like the UK, Europe, and Japan) it will not read or play an NTSC disc.

Misconfigured or corrupted firmware installations can also cause this problem. Furthermore, pirated games will not play, because they do not have the appropriate security key on the disc.

You can try testing this by creating a new profile on the PS3 and trying to play the games. If you can play them with the new profile, then there is a corruption with the old profile. If you can't play them in the new profile, then it could be the firmware.

Lastly you may have a blown drive. Most PS3 games are dual layer blu ray discs capable of storing large amounts of data. The blu ray drive in the PS3 uses a sequenced dual laser to read the game. If one of the laser emitters has blown, it won't read the game correctly. However, since it doesn't use both emitters to read blu ray movie disks or dvds they'll still play correctly.

question did you update the firmware for the PlayStation? if so their is a potential that you patched the unit and can not longer play some files this way. a precaution taken by psp already to stop downloads of home brew and emulated media.

PS3 wont play blue ray or PS3 game discs

Please check the region code on the BD or DVD. It should match the region code set in the system. Otherwise the disc will not play

PS3 stopped reading PS3 games

This is most likely do to a previous freeze up while on the PS3. All you have to do is to first disconnect all of the plugs and wires. Then you put them back in and turn on the PS3. It should read your PS3 game discs.

Sounds like the laser diode burned out. If your under warranty send it in. If not you could buy a replacment and install it yourself.

My ps3 wont play blue ray discs or my games anymore

if your ps3 doesnt play ANY games or dvds, that may mean that the eye on the ps3(the thing that reads the disks and dvds) is malfunctioning, not moving efficiently enough to procces the disk, not recognizing the encrypted code on the disks, or the optical eye could even be scratched. the disk feed could also not be feeding the disk in far enough for the eye to read it. i would definitly suggest calling customer service and/or bringing the ps3 to an A+ certified technition to "diagnose" your problem.

Ps3 console: Put disks into machine and it now does not recognize them. The blue read light stays on, but get nothing.

I had the same issue after playing Call of Duty 4. Just wouldn't read any type of disc. Spoke to Sony sent a new PS3 out the very next day. My brother in law a week later experienced the same, again Sony sent new PS3 out. I think theres a problem with it, and thats why Sony just replaces them with no questions asked to avoid bad publicity
