When you say voice mail, do you mean your personal vmail box or the AutoAttendant? If so you'll need to login to the 998 mailbox and modify the "Custom Service" prompts (menu# 5-3). NOw as far as the ringing goes, you might try doing an extension data clear procedure by doing Intercom -> *790 (I think it's Intercom 7900 on the older systems). Otherwise you should call a local Panasonic Dealer for a service call. Contact me offline for a referral.

I have put a main greeting on my Norstar M7310 phone for all 5 incoming lines, however one of our incoming lines has grabbed a personal message form another extension and callers get that personal message...

You need to know what extension is causing the forward directly to voice mail. Chances are that this extension has ringing lines programmed to it and the forward on busy is to voice mail. ANY PHONE THAT HAS RINGING LINES SHOULD NOT BE SET TO FORWARD ON BUSY. If they happen to be on the phone when a call comes in it will go straight to their personal mailbox.

My phone only rings 3 times then stops how can i make it ring longer thanks brian

When it stops ringing, the caller goes to your voice mail, right?

If so, then you need to contact your phone company and have them change your "Ring Cycle" -- that's the number of rings before the voice mail system picks up.

Some phone companies have a way for you to do this yourself from their website, other require that you call up the customer service line. Either way, the thing you want to adjust is your voice mail ring cycle.

Nor ringing long enough before going to voice mail

Try going into your settings/call settings/call divert.
Go into Call Divert and cancel all diverts.
This should solve your problem.

Need more rings

You have to change the rings from the voice mail server. If you don't know your way around the server, its best to get a local NEC tech although it is fairly simple to navigate. Depends on your skill. Typical default password for the server is NEC

How do I ajust the ringer.

Hi adititeres,

Is the phone part of a phone system? If it is that feature is programmed in the phone system itself. Do you have voice mail service on the line? Or is this a voice mail service in the phone? If it is on the line, call your dial tone provider to have the number of rings changed. If it is on the phone itself, your user manual will have it. Please let me know if you have any addtional questions.

Phone Doesn't Ring Long Enough Before Going To VM

The phone you have can be used on different Avaya phone systems that program differently. It is certainly something that can be changed but you would need to know which system you have first. There is a call-forward no answer timer that send the call to another station or voice mail box etc.. after so many seconds. That is what needs to be changed.

All the manuals are available at www.avaya.com but again, you would need to know which system you have before looking for the manual.

Call will not Transfer to Voice Mail

Typically you want your phone system to ring your phones (say extension 10, 11 and 15) and then if no one answers after so many rings the call is transfered to the port the voice mail is on (let's say it's port 16) The voice mail is set to answer right away but does not "ring" until the call is transfered to it. This way (at 4 rings) if a call comes in on line 1 and you answer after 3 rings but a call comes in on line 2 at the same time, the first ring on line 2 will not make the total = 4 and set off the voice mail. I would guess the port at your voice mail is not set to ring and nothing is set up to transfer calls to your voice mail. Did you set this up yourself? How did you program the phone system?
