Start again install Printer cd and download drives and so on on to your computer. then connect the printer via usb and switch on printer. there are some other ways of seeing that printer is recognised by your pc - check printers list. Its the PC that recognises the printer not the other way around. Printers are peripheral like a scanner etc. you could also the localise a printer try the procedure on another PC

Sounds like a communication error somewhere between the printer and your hardware. You might need to update the driver. Go to the manufacture's website and put the model number of your printer in to get the latest driver. There might also be a driver specifically for your Mac there.
