I have a Sharp Aquos LC-52D62U. It now has a thin green line from top to bottom. Bought Nov. '07 with no extended warranty. Been told it would be too expensive to fix - buy a new one. Anybody experience this problem?

Hi, Unfortunately the panel is cracked internally can't can't be repaired the whole panel has to be replaced. most times the panel will cost as much as you paid for the set. My son cracked ours when it was only 3 weeks old it doesn't take much force to ruin one.
Warranty still alive?
Hope so; the problem could be an expensive one.
The screen appearance is controlled by allowing light from a backlight through by turning pixels off and on.
This switching is done by a matrix that turns on vertical and horizontal pixels of the right shade at the right time to produce the image you see.
One of the control elements for the vertical that controls the transmission of green light from the backlight, has died (no longer switching off and on when told) and these are normally a part of the LCD screen assembly itself and not easily replaceable.
I would be talking to Sharp - this shouldn't happen in 6-7 months of use.
Sharp lcd screens are very easly damaged especially the larger screens, this could be at fault even though it looks ok,try shinning a light on the screen and checking every inch, could be the internal screen that has damage hence why not powering up.
Failing that it sounds like an internal short.
sharp is very aware of the panel and main video processor problems. They should give you no problems on the repair. It sounds most likely you have a main video processor problem.
