Is there a prob;em using the Bytec BT-144 External

Is there a problem using the Bytec BT-144 External Floppy Drive on a computer running Vista? If so, what do I need to do? T

he CD-ROM which came with device seems to have support for pre-Vista only.

I originally used the plug-n-play without any apparent problem, but the word processing program I installed with the BT-144 is not working properly, leading me to suspect I may need a new driver for Vista.

THANK YOU!

If you installed a program with the drive, th edrive is functioning properly. If the program will not run, you need to check the program compatibility with vista or investigate any errors you are recieving.

I have purchased a BT-144 USB External Floppy Disc Drive. I have some old floppy discs which I want to put onto my Mac. I cannot find a suitable driver for my mac. Any suggestions

Most external devices like those are plug and play (Plug n Pray) and if it is not working it is because:
A the Mac is new and will not recognize "legacy" tech.
B To my knowledge there is no drivers for those but it should work on PC's.. even then you may have to use a DOS shell to get it to copy/transfer properly
see if there is an available Mac "DOS" emulator.. this may work but it may not... If you are trying to transfer native mac programs then even PC may not "see" what is on the disk.. so If you go a PC rout you may have to use a "MAC" emulator to see the data.. hopes this helps.

Will BT=144 work for mac

Which version of MAC OS are you running, it should work with 8.6 and up.
Also how old is the floppy disc?
It might have lost the data if it's really old.

Can I use a Bytecc BT-144 usb external floppy disk drive with an iMac running OS 10.10.1?

I'm not a Mac tech, but I wouldn't see why not. Floppy drives are kinda old school now. You may need a driver for the floppy. Check online and see what you can find. Download and install it.

Or you may have to plug the floppy in, then reboot, to get the Mac to recognize it, especially with a USB port. Some old Windozz machines were like that...maybe your Mac too????

Mac OS is very close to Linux/Unix systems, which have awful support for floppy drives. That's another possibility.

If your windows machine can't read the disk, makes me think the floppy drive is bad or you have corrupted files on the disk. Try a couple known good floppy disks on the Windoz box and see what happens. Or another removable floppy drive. They cost $5 to $10 now.

Running Vista Home Premium on my PC. Installed your USB external floppy drive, item STB-UFDB which was recognized by my PC. The green line on the floppy drive ran for about 7 seconds and then stopped. I...

You need to stop using Vista as Microsoft has not supported it since 2014. OK to use Vista for a while after 2014 because Windows Update still gave security updates for other Windows products (Word, Works, etc.). But now, Windows Update for Vista will not work anymore for anything. At least switch to Windows 7 as Microsoft will probably support it until 2020.

My BT-144 is not being reongnized by my windows 7 the light doesnt even turn on, should I return it or what can i do

You should test this external floppy drive on another computers. If it doesn't work on any PC you should probably return it.

Though if this problem is exclusive to your PC there's somethings you can check:

  • That your Hard Drive is the appropiate format in order to be recognized by your machine (NSTC).
  • That you're plugging it directly to a usb port on your PC and not on a USB hub since these devices require a lot of power and sometimes a USB hub doen't have enough to power it.

My external hdd from bytec is not recognized by my computer. What shall I do?

Try to use direct connection to your computer. Using IDE cable.
If your comp can detect, means your external casing problem.
If not detect, your hard disk problem

Yes, the external floppy drive must be connected directly to a USB port on the computer instead of to a USB hub.The PC can't see the drive thru the USB hub. Applies to both 32 and 64 bit.
