If the band is on received faxes, the problem is a dirty drum or corona wire; if the band is on sent or transmitted faxes, the problem lies in a dirty scanner.

Testimonial: "After removing the toner cartridge& using windex on the drum, problem seems resolved-thanks greg!you just saved me the cost of buying a new drum kit."

Hello, I'm having the same issue on my fax machine. I just bought a new toner cartridge and new drum and the problem still exists. Please provide any additional thoughts/suggestions to correct my issue. Thanks!

2" black band prints on right-side of every page

print a report, any report, from your control panel. if it looks good and your band is only on copies and transmitted faxes, that would be your Contact Image Sensor going bad. its located under your document feeder and looks like a sinny piece of glass that runs left to right.

Black band down right side of page when copy or fax

Most common cause for a band on copies or sent faxes is debris on the scanner glass. A cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol will usually work in cleaning the scan area. After cleaning the area, allow it to completely dry prior to testing the machine.

Black line down one side of paper

Lift the auto feeder cover and clean the narrow glass that the originals are scanned across...sounds like you have some dirt there -maybe correction fluid? That's the most common.

A bar code stripe on the right side of the copy.

i'm not sure if you're talking about a solid black band or a bunch of little stripes running down page. does it happen when you run an internal report or only on copies? if its a black solid band, check and make sure the bluish colored tab on top of the drum is all the way to the left side. if its a group of fine lines, depending on whether it happens on internal reports or not, it could be the drum is going bad or you may have a bad scanner. write back with a little more info if this suggestion doesn't work.

good luck,

Black line about 1 1/2 inches wide down side of faxes or copies

if your RECEIVED faxes look good, then leroyal is dead on. you will need a new CIS which stands for contact image sensor. if you have an authorized brother service center nearby, they may be able to do it for 100 to 150.00, depending on their pricing of course. if rec'd faxes are bad also, pull drum out and make sure the blue tab on top of drum is all the way to the right side, although that usually only leaves about a 1/2" black band.

2 inch vertical solid band on right side when making a copy

There is probably dirt or ink on the scanner glass, this would affect both copying and sending faxes.

Here is a link to the manual and a description on page 74 showing how to clean the glass.
