I appreciate the advice offered. However, after looking at the agitator, I could not find any place for a set screw - no hole at all. And I could not find any rubber ring either. The agitator seems to just slide down over the splines on the transmission shaft with a "friction fit". I replaced the agitator and used a rubber mallet to pound down on the top of the agitator to perhaps better seat it on the shaft. If this does not work, I may have to order a new agitator. Hello Oceti - and thanks for your follow-up ! There was NO hole for a set screw in the old agitator! My solution was to order a replacement through a local Appliance store.

The old one was "tourquose" in color and the replacement one is black. The replacement one HAS the Set Screw hole in it - with the set screw supplied. I removed the old one and installed the replacement one, tightened the set screw as instructed, and it is working satisfactorily.



The machine is probably at least 25 years old.
