R-209BK Sharp Microwave buttons inoperable

We have this microwave in our camper and the last time out some of the buttons no longer gave a beep when pressed or made a difference in the display. We were able to use it off and on until all of the buttons became inoperable. When we got home I removed the cover to see if something had a loose connection. Everything seemed to be in order so I plugged it in and everything worked just fine for the 10 minutes or so that I played with it. I set the time and left it plugged it in with plans on using it to help with supper. At suppertime I pressed the clear button and nothing. Other buttons work but the stop/clear won't function. This is what it was doing while camping and the more I mess with it the more buttons fail. I left it unplugged all night and in the morning plugged it in and the stop/clear button worked. I put a cup of water in punched up a time 1:11 and pressed start. It started up but when I went to stop it by pressing the stop button once again it wouldn't work. I opened it to stop it then closed it up and now the start button is inoperable again. This thing can't have 5 hours on it so I know it isn't worn out. Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Rick

I had this problem too:
it turns out that it (apparently) just needed some 'warm-up' time!

After being plugged in for about 15 to 30 minutes,
the buttons suddenly "came to life"...

Note that when it's flashing 88:88 you are supposed to _start_ with the 'Stop/Clear' button. After that, set the clock (press "Clock", enter the time with the number pad, then press Clock again).

Hope that helps.

its a connection problem probally from a bump while driving the camper - you can dismantle the microwave yourself from the back and reconnect the jared wiring, or just replace it with an industrial one that can handle the camper abuse.

My Sharp problem is not with the product itself but more of an issue with lack of service from it's reps.I had a problem with a Sharp product last week ,so I decided to call the # posted. However, this made...

Unfortunately, its not just Sharp. Many small appliance manufacturers are designing their products with an obsolete date as early as the warranty runs out. I see this all the time....even on very expensive items. For many mfgs, its cheaper to keep the manufacturing lines churning than to build an appliance to last....say 10 years. I do hope your experience with the new microwave is much better...and longer lasting. M

Sharp R-1510 Start Button Not Working

This may not solve your problem, but on my Sharp R315J microwave, the little plastic pin that pushes forward on the inside of the start button, had broken off and it wouldn't start. The Minute Plus button would start the microwave, so I knew the microwave worked, so I tried to find a piece of plastic that I could glue into the start button hole, because the part doesn't exist and you have to buy the whole door for $100 plus shipping. Nothing I could find was small enough, so I started looking for a new microwave.
While ouside doing lawn work I noticed a small bird tail feather and the end looked to be the perfect size. I snipped off the pointed end and then up about 3/8" to make a little rod to replace the plastic one that broke. It fit perfectly!!! I didn't even have to glue the inside end, it stays put even after repeated door opens. This is sturdy material and looks to last a long time. When it wears out, I have a cat, there's always a few feathers around. I hope this saves someone else a hundred bucks, like it did me.
