Lenovo 3000 I am too having the same problem, the random power off of the system. I am having a lenovo 3000 N 100 0768-HBQ model, Intel Dual-core ,1.73 gHz, T-2080 processor.I too have a dead battery(it is the second battery after first one went down) and a corrupted DVD drive too(usual problem with lenovo products :smileywink I did this after i saw the problem opened the cover over the cooling fan and cleaned that detached the dead battey I thought it could be some loose connection in the fan circuit. Well the the laptop run for around 5hrs last night but it went power off again later. and the very same situation (powered off in about 7-8 minutes) from today morning. I hope for a solution/root cause of the problem fast

Have you checked the thermal grease underneath the heat sink in the laptop. If it's dried out, that would explain why it doesn't stay on that long.

If it's dried up, use rubbing alcohol and clean the dried up material and then use compressed air to dry the cpu and head sink. Use phase change material (arctic silver). Also, clean all of the dust out of the laptop. Try this solution.

Lenovo 3000 N100 0768-FTG lap top need processor upgrade

I'm afraid you're out of luck, the motherboard is not capable of taking a dual core processor. Your only option would be to consider selling the laptop and buying a new one that already has a dual core processor installed.
