I am trying to fax something but am not getting a dial tone. Yes the phone line works.

Yes I have it plugged in and it has worked. I think I may have accidentally changed a program.

Well, then we know its not the line. It could be the jack, or its hooked in the wrong jack. Make sure you have the phone LINE going into the jack marked LINE, and not EXTENSION or PHONE. The LINE jack is the main feed for the machine.

Hi my canon fax-JX500 displays 'line in use' and has no dial tone. Can you please tell me how to fix the problem?

Unplug your fax from the phone line. Plug in a phone. Dial tone? Yes? then either fax is bad or the phone wire is bad.

No dial tone? Phone line dead.

No dial tone on phone connected to ext port on epson dx9400f

Buy a double adapter so both cords go to the LINE port. Set your answering machine to 6 or 7 rings so the fax picks up first. Your fax machine will know the difference between voice and fax calls,

I am trying to use the fax facility on my epson600fw.my isp is aol .Problem no dial tone. What connections are necessary............via printer, modem & computer ?

Typically, a fax machine is connected directly to a telephone wall jack with a known working connection. Try plugging the fax machine directly into a wall jack first and pick up the handset on the fax machine if it has one. You should get a dial tone. Then try to fax something to someone you know.

The machine can also usually be routed through the modem in a computer by connecting the "line" cord on the modem to the wall jack and plugging the fax machine into the the "phone" jack on the modem. You may need to install the software that came with the fax machine to get this to work.

If you have no dial tone, check the wall jack with a known to be working single line phone. If there is a dial tone, it's something to do with fax machine, the computer modem or the connections.

Some fax machines can take advantage of internet faxing through a cable modem or DSL connection. Check your manual for the options available.

GET "NO DIAL TONE" ERROR.

I must tell you that this is not a printer issue, since printer does not have inbuilt fax capabilities....Actually you are trying to send fax from the computer using a Data Fax Modem. Printer just used for scanning and printing documents for fax...

1. Please check if your computer have Fax modem.
Look at the back of the system tower, if you see a phone jack port (probably two of them).

2. If yes then , you need to have a telephone cable directly from wall (not the ethernet cable coming from DSL modem), fax works on analog signals which is possible only from telehone line.

If your phone line is working, there is no chance the it will give you error again for NO Dial tone

Fax problem

I want to make sure I understand this completely. You get no dial tone from the fax machine when hooked up to VOIP. In the past, was there an audible dial tone from the fax, or did it just dial silently and give you an error if there was no tone? When you said you got a dial tone by connecting a phone to the ext phone port of "the machine" did you mean the fax machine? If you get a dial tone by running a phone through the fax machine, then the line is good. I have used a fax machine over Sunrocket before they went defunct, which used the same technology base as Vonage - so it should work. If you used to get an audible dial tone when using the fax, and no longer do, and you are geting a dial tone on a regular phone that is connected to the ext. port of the fax machine, then the problem has to be in the fax machine itself, not the VOIP. If you can verify that, we can go from there.
