"system error" msg on Sony voice recorder ICD-U60

The recorder is locked on a "system error" message - I can't record or do anything for that matter. swapping or removing and reinserting the battery does nothing either - just keep getting the same message and the recorder is locked.
Any ideas?

Use a cable running from the headphone jack on the recorder into your PC microphone jack. Then you can capture the audio using Windows MovieMaker software that comes with Windows XP. I have done this and it worked perfectly.

Sony ICD-U60 - Will not play back on PC

On the internet, navigate to THIS PAGE, then select your operating system, where it says, "Select an operating system to see files:" in the center of the lower portion of the page (list of compatible systems shown below also), by selecting from the pull-down menu; then click on the appropriate link in the 'Download' column on the far right; then click the 'Download Now' icon with the earth and a green arrow pointing down on the far right, saving it to your desktop (or any location you prefer). Once the file downloads, double-click on the executable file you just downloaded, and follow the instructions. The result will be that your computer will now recognize and correctly deal with files created by your recorder.
