Most likely some intermittant fault condition is happening and the controller is cutting out. This could be overheating of the controller, a loose or corroded connection to battery, controller, control panel or motor, over-current in the motor or battery under-voltage. It may need someone to go over the wiring and connectors and checking everything is sound.

The Razor charges fine and will start with no load. For instance, spin the wheels and hit the throttle, it kicks right in. Put it on the ground and it stops immediately. By the same token, it will not

The battery can be recharged only so many times before it is no longer usable. You probably need a new battery. It runs with no load because it does not need much current (amperage). With a load it needs a lot more current than the battery can actually put out. The charger brings the voltage of the battery back up to normal but the current is not there due to a worn out or defective battery.

Problem starting scooter when cold.

You need to check that your automatic enricher (often called an auto-choke) is working. You should find then when the engine is cold, the scooter hasn't ran for at least an hour, the enricher will be short. Take it out of the carb and measure the plunger. Put it back into the carb. Then start the scooter and let it run for 5 minutes. Quickly remove the enricher, being careful around anything hot, and measure the plunger again. If there is no change, it's not working. The attached link may help you to understand what I'm talking about better.
Automatic Enricher Operation 10x Speed Choke Bypass Bystarter

You should also check the condition of your spark plug. If it's fouled, damaged, or gapped wrong it could be making starting more difficult.

A battery in poor condition will also make it harder to start. Battery checks link below.

Good luck with it.

I have purchased new batteries for my mobility scooter which even when fully charged will not start my scooter. I turn the key but there is nothing ,as if a flat battery . Any ideas please Trudie

The control seems to be the issue. I have rewired so many scooters. When you have power and it wont go, it is usually the control. If you cannot afford the part right away, you can rewire it or have it rewired direct

hi, first you need to check the connections to the batteries then to the motor controller, and don't dismiss the speed pot, disconnect the speed pot and try a normal 5K pot inplace of it, if the scooters responds you find the problem just a case of getting the right speed pot. Check the freewheel switch, normally it located on the motor side.

Scooter won't start

Chances are the battery has never been replaced. You could replace the battery or get a 1 or 2 amp battery charger and try to charge the old battery. DO NOT go over 2 amps when charging. I would buy the charger before I bought a new battery. Saving the old battery is worth a shot. If the battery won't take a charge, at least you now have a charger for when you need it. Be sure water covers the top of each cell in the battery before charging.

I am unfamiliar with your specific bike but if it has a kick starter, it should be on the right side of the gear box near the back and close to the foot rest. It could be that your scooter does not have a kick start but has an electric start instead. Fix the battery problem then put the engine in neutral and press the buttons on the handlebars. One of them is likely to be the start button.

Two final thoughts. First, go to a dealer that sells Torpedo scooters and ask questions on how the scooter operates and user maintenance you should be doing while you own it. Get and read an owners manual. Second, in a safe area, practice emergency stops. Imagine a car pulls out in front of you and then brake quickly to avoid an accident. Do this for an hour. Now when something happens you will automaticly react instead of having hesitation by having to think, " Now where is the brake on this bike? ".

Battery power on mobility scooter

Most scooters show a drop on the battery level meter when in use, as long as it is`nt slowing down it should`nt be a prob. I mean, when you engage the throttle you ARE putting a load on the batteries,so it`s only par for the course that the indicator would drop a bit.

Sudden stops

Sounds like the brake. Ohm chech the brake (it is attached to the end of the motor). It should be around 35 ohms
