Hello, can you help me? I have a 5th generation 30GB i-pod that wsa purchased Dec 2005. I was listening to something and suddenly it froze and the wheel no longer let me stop/start/turn off the i-pod. I tried to run the battery down but obviously this wa taking along time as it was stuck! I managed to reset it but the wheel was still not responding and therefore not allowing me to listen to or choose any music. Since then, I can charge and get the main screen up but nothing else! It's definitely not the battery. I don't want to buy a new one and apple repair is the same price, could there be a cheaper and easier solution? Please help!
To reset an iPod with a Click Wheel, including:
Tip: If you are having
difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the
finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click
wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the
outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.
If the above
steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the
power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your
computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to
sleep.
My buddies iPod Classic (160gb) just came up with the same problem. I cannot reset it (as the click wheel does not respond), I have done a Restore through iTunes... still nothing.
One strange thing is that if you leave it unlocked, the screen will turn its backlight on about once every minute... I'm currently letting its battery run out to see if that makes any difference. I doubt it though.
Help!!!
My Click Wheel Wont Work either(This is The 5th Generation 80GB) Ive Reset It About 50 times And Cleaned Under The Click Wheel Then Left It For About 2 Months. Got It Back Out About a Hour Ago Then Cleaned Under The Click Wheel Again it Worked Briefly Then Stopped Again
My Dad Took It Apart But Didn't Have a Screwdriver To Take It fully Apart And Get The click Wheel Out :(
I Nearly Cried When It Broke As I love My iPod Very Much :(:(

I saw on this website to take a thin but strong piece of anything and slide it under the clickwheel to remove the gunk under it...i have yet to try it though because i just found out about 12 min ago^^
