Question about Pentax Optio 50 Digital Camera

My pentax optio 50 lens got stuck half-way and now the camera turns on briefly and then goes off automatically. I've replaced batteries and pushed the lens in manually, but it's still not working. Mary

This is tricky .. if you have no warranty, and have already managed to push the lens in.. I suggest pulling the lens outwards gently AS you simulataneously turn the camera on. You may be able to use a small suction-cup affixed to the lens to do this :)
you could hold the lens-cover open with tape so the cover is less likely to be damaged.. good luck, this problem is common, annoying, and usually not worth repairing (*although with some cameras it can be done again and again!)

When I push the power-on button the LCD display briefly flashes on with the "Pentax Optio" screen and then switches off. The lens is stuck half-way open, and the camera will not stay powered up....

Hi,

Is the lens totally stuck? Does it even move a little? Did you try to power cycle the camera?

Pentax Optio 50L : my wife dropped it in the sand !!! Lens stuck etc.. Does anyone have a manual explaining how to strip ir down and clean it ? Thanks, John

IF MY PENTAX OPTIO A30 is turned on a blank screen

It sounds like you need a new main board. Pentax in Arizona will replace the main board for about $135, or I will replace it for $65. If you just want to get rid of this camera, I also buy all Pentax Option a10, a20, a30, a40 cameras.

My husband bought a Pentax Optio M20 LAST 2006. Most of the time it won,t turn on.On other instances,it turns on briefly and after taking about 3 pictures it turns off automatically. The batteries are new...

There is a short in the circuit board this camera needs repair.

Goes off after lens come out.

Get it repaired under warranty. Sounds like a logic circuit problem.

Maybe.
But it does seem to be a lens problem. Possibly the lens is out of sync as mentioned in another post here.If there is a grinding, the lens is probably damaged by dirt or sand.
Make sure the batteries or battery is fully charged.

Not really, it sounds like the lens has been bumped while it was extended. Unfortunately, the "buzz" you hear is the gears stripping one another. The only fix is to have the lens assembly replaced, which usually costs upwards of $200. I see this problem at least 3 times a week in my shop.

Pentax Optio 555 - Fozen with the lens stuck-out

happened to me a couple times & after recharging battery, still stuck, so manually pushed it in when motor was running trying to close it.

Pentax Optio T10 turning off immediately

My optio t10 did basically the same thing...turned on, lens goes out, then automatically shut off. I took the advice of a solution listed here for another problem...hit the camera. For whatever reason it worked.
