I have a NetGear RangeMax Wireless Router with Model no. WPN824 v2. I have a DSL modem from ATT in Miami which works just fine and connects to the internet just fine since I have connected it to two laptops and an xbox 360 and the internet connection has worked just fine. When I connect to the laptops or the Xbox 360 I do not need to set anything up or enter any usernames or passwords (which was strange with my prior experiences with dsl) and it just works. I do know my username and password for the internet connection. I connect my NetGear via ethernet cable to my laptop and access the routers interface at the ip address 192.168.1.1 via a web browser. Once there I ran the setup wizard the first time and it did not connect to the internet. I then attempted manually inputting the settings and still it would not connect to the internet. I can establish my wireless network with security just fine and my devices can connect to the wireless network just fine as well however the internet connection is not being transmitted. The router attempts to connect to the internet to take me to the NetGear website but fails everytime. I have tried setting up the internet without requiring a password and also with the username and password and neither worked. I have tried to manually input ip address, dns, and subnest mask settings as well as allowing it to automatically obtain them and nothing. I have gone to the ATT website to obtain these port numbers and those did not work either. The router is in good condition and all other functions seem to work just fine. Once again I reiterate that the internet connection is in fact working. Is there some kind of test I can perform to find out if the router is just messed up and wont connect to the internet?
Verify that you can connect to the internet without the router by hooking the cable from the dsl modem to your computers NIC.
If you can connect to the internet that way the problem is with the router. press and hold the reset button on the back of the router to reset it to the factory settings. (this just makes it easy to determine the problem) if this corrects the problem you can setup your security again

The at&t dsl modems store the login username and password so once you have it setup you don't have to enter it again. The web address it took you to was the dsl modems internal setup which is normal.
It sounds like the router is not working correctly. You should not manually enter IP address in your computers. You should select the assign automatic feature. Your router performs like a DHCP server which leases the internal network IP address and uses the router as a gateway.
If you have reset the router to factory settings which is without any security and your computers are set to assign automaticly, I would try to renew the individual computers IP address by going to the command prompt and typing ipconfig /renew
If all of this is correct and still no internet connection, i would say the router is bad.
I'm sorry, I should have said that everything should be plugged in.
The at&t dsl modem is assigned an IP address from your Internet provider. The router utilizes that IP address for your network to go on the web. The homeside of your network works like this, the router is also called the gateway and usually has an IP address of 10.0.0.1, your first commuter will be 10.0.0.2, and the next will be 10.0.0.3 and so on for how ever many computers you have.
The thing is, your router assigns or leases these internal IP address out to each computer for a fixed lenght of time.(usually 2 days for wireless and 5-7 days for a wired connection.
Where problems come in, as an example, say you took your laptop to work and used there internet, the IP address that your computer is using at work is different than your IP at home of course. Say that you then went home and turned your laptop on and you could not connect because your still trying to hook up to the work IP address. You then at the command prompt type ipconfig /renew
What this command does is sends a request to your router for a new IP address and when the router sends it back to you, you then can access the gateway(router) and forward your request out to the internet. This is just one of many examples of IP address's getting mixed up. These routers use DHCP which stands for dynamic host control protocol(meens that your IP renews and changes itself for security. The IP address from at&t is also dynamic and changes. Thats why sometimes you lose connectivity if the router does not communicate with the dsl modem when it changes and a reboot of the router is required to obtain the new IP address from at&t.
I hope this helps you. Please reply for th enext step if this doesn't work.

Is the smart setup (that is automatic setup) does not work, call your internet provider for the exact details (unless you have them) and do the manual setup.
You will save time.
SOURCE: Opening NAT for xbox360 on WPN824
u need to loginto the router page
on the left side of the screen u will see an option called WANsetup under advanced
1.disable spi firewall
2.nat filtering to open
apply the setting
it must work
SOURCE: Problem connecting to Netgear WNR854T Gigabit edition
The WNR854T will downspeed to 10Mbps on its ethernet ports so speed should not be a problem.
Suggest you try crossover ethernet cable between router and dsl modem.

I would suggest replacing the router...I think Netgear has "Back to school" sale for Netgear N routers...

I reset the router to factory settings and I attempted the whole process over with no success. (With or without wireless setup and with or without wireless security enabled, it still would not connect to the internet)
I indeed CAN connect to the internet directly with the laptops and the xbox 360 by connecting them directly to the dsl modem.
Again, the router all seems fine since it does everything else perfectly well, it just wont connect or detect the internet connection.
Now something that was different this time around is that ATT setup my username and password into the modem via a webpage, previously with other dsl isp carriers i would have to put my login information into my computer, into every computer. With this setup whatever computer i connect to the modem via ethernet cable automatically connects to the internet and I dont need to even input information.
Does this different setup have to be somehow programmed into the router for it to connect to the internet?
Is the ipconfig/renew something that has to be done with the router plugged in? Or should I do this with nothing plugged in.
If so, should I have it reset to factory settings with no security for this purpose?
Lastly, should I have the modem connected to the router when i do the ipconfig/renew procedure?
It worked great! The ipconfig/renew did it for me, the router was assigned 10.0.0.1 like you said and everything went smooth sailing, it connected to the internet on its first attempt (the router). I even got the Xbox running!!!
Fantastic help! I sincerely thank you for your patience and support!!!! This website really lives up to it's name, I'm not going anywhere else from now on.
Thanks a million Billy!!
