My verizon LG3 ''self-dials,'' ''self-speaks,'' ''turns on itself.''
I don't much like this LG3 or, for that matter, Verizon. I keep my phones in-pocket and always did (Sanyo/Motorola clamshells). This LG3 surface pad seems quite sensitive to my pants material ''folding'' onto the key pad, and self-dials, self-speaks. I went to the Vz store and they showed me how to hold zero and ''lock'' the key pad. That worked almost all the time, but not always. So in desperation to lock-out these issues, I just went to literally turning off the LG3. BUT!! It ''learned'' to turn itself on! Apparently at my job, squatting at work with wheelchair Special Ed students I am ''pushing against the PWR button with a fold of my pants pocket material long enough to turn the blasted thing on. TWICE this week at work (Chavez High School) it's done this! Both days I ran out of power on my way home. Verizon refuses to let me trade it for an LG clamshell. Says I've got to buy my replacement. Ok. I will buy something on craigslist, but in 19 months I hope to dump Verizon & bring my wife with me.. Dale in Humble Texas.. Thanks y'all

So you're playing with all the settings in your phone and you notice this nice security menu. Wow, maybe you should enable the lock code. But you don't want to have to enter the lock code all the time, so you set your phone to only need a code when it turns on. Ah. Some piece of mind. What's this other sub-menu? Network? What's a NAM? Hmm. Let's set NAM 2 and see what happens. EEEK! Your phone's rebooting. Why's it doing that? Okay. Here's that new prompt for the security code. It's okay. I remember it's the last 4 digits of my phone number. Oh No! That didn't work. Unfortunately, when you switched to NAM 2, you switched your phone over to a different phone number. Your code's no good. Your phone is useless.
There are 2 solutions. The safest and best solution is to take your phone back to Verizon and have them reprogram it. A few people have told me Verizon is uninterested in doing this. A more risky solution is below. It will reset your phone to its original settings and erase all your phone numbers you have in the phone but it should get your phone working again. I've never had to fix this problem on my own phone, but a bunch of people have emailed me their thanks to say that this works. If this doesn't work or you make it worse, please don't blame me, especially if you don't follow the directions very carefully. I believe this proceedure works, but there is one mistake that if you dial a 9 at just the wrong moment, then you're going to be guaranteed making a trip to Verizon (so speaks the voice of experience). So, without further ado, here's the proceedure: Do this exactly:
With your phone on, dial 47*68#13580
This will bring up a menu that says something like "-TEST CDMA-"
Dial 22
Your phone will now say "Send NAM 2"
Dial 222222 (the number 2, six times)
With each key press two digits will appear on your screen. Something like "000000-84100". Write down the 3 digits after the dash (e.g. 841). These are the first 3 digits of your unlock code.
Dial #
Dial 73
Your phone will say "Clear All." and it will just sit there for a while. Don't panic, just let it clear all the settings. It's not clearing the programming, just all the ringers and key beeps and menu settings that you entered (and more importantly, its reseting your password to something predictable). After about 30 seconds a "." will appear after the 73 you dialed. when that happens, the menus are cleared.
Dial 02
This will reboot your phone.
When the phone finishes restarting try the 10 possible security codes that start with the 3 digits you wrote down (e.g. 8410, 8411, 8412, 8413, ...). One of those codes should work.
When your phone is unlocked, switch back to NAM 1 by pressing Menu, 0 for Setup, 2 for Network, 1 for Set NAM, and select NAM 1.
My name is Tim and I am collection Specialist with Verizon Wireless, I see a lot of phones with problems but not any like this. This phone has truly seen its better days. Take it to a store and have them replace it with a different LG Rumor phone. IF you don't have Total Equipment Protection on your plan, then you are still covered under warranty for the 1 year or 2 year depending on the manufacturer warranty. But if you have Total Equipment Protection then your warranty is good for the life of the contract and you DO NOT have to pay the 50 dollar deposit, replacement should be free. If the Verizon Store is closed by you then call Verizon from a landline phone or another cell phone and they can get one to you within 2 days using priority shipping. If you don't have Verizon, then contact your service provider and speak to their customer service team.
I had the same problem and found that the speed dial feature in "settings" is not turned on by default even though voice mail number is pre-programed into the speed speed list. Go to "Settings & Tools/Call Settings/One Touch Dial" and turn the option on. Cheers, Don Devine
