Just want some more memory

Unable to use some spare DDR ram in my Compaq presario 5000. i have 3 RAM slots and i have some non Compaq DDR RAM sticks i salvaged from other PCs, i tried replacing the previous sticks but when i tried starting it up it gave me an error, i figured it needed to be set to new settings, but i don't know how to do that, i had managed to get it to load the desktop, but it acted like it was in safe mode, and i couldn't adjust the screen resolution.
i removed the two sticks i had added, and put the Compaq original in, (there was one 128 stick in previously, and the Compaq stick was 64mb)

now this is an old PC so i do expect some restrictions, but i think a simple RAM upgrade would be nice.
(one of other sticks i don't know the brand of, but one was a Viking Components brand, another brand i have is a Kingston, im certain all 4 of these spares i have are 128 aswell)

PS: OS is Windows ME (yes.. its a back up PC...my main is KIA at the moment)

Getting additional memory The below commands will help allow your computer to load programs into memory more efficiently allowing you to have more memory for MS-DOS programs / games.
Ensure you have the below three lines at the beginning of your config.sys file.
DEVICE=C:\Windows\HIMEM.SYS
DOS=HIGH,UMB
DEVICE=C:\Windows\EMM386.EXE NOEMS
By placing the DOS=HIGH,UMB on the second line, this can, in some cases, save memory because it is loading DOS into upper memory before loading the memory manager. Additionally, the first and third lines cannot be loaded into high memory because these lines are the memory managers.
Load all your devices in your config.sys and autoexec.bat into high memory.

Presario sr1710nx what type memory

Crucial.com has an excellent wizard for locating memory.
Computer memory upgrades for HP Compaq Presario SR1710NX Desktop PC...

Lists memory compatible with your machine.
Memory Type: DDR PC3200, DDR (non-ECC)
Maximum Memory: 4GB
Slots: 4icon_note.gif Although the memory can be installed one module at a time, the best performance comes from using matched pairs of modules.

I have also found that the memory occasionally is not recognized. To fix remove the ram and clean electrical contacts with a clean pencil eraser. (Rub the contacts to clean.) Then replace memory. (My machine failed to boot, cleaning the contacts fixed the problem.

How much ram can I install on my Averatec 2200?

The ram maxes out at 2GB. There is only one memory slot, so you would need a 2GB memory stick. Hope this helps.

I need to know what RAM I should use in my Compaq Presario 5000 desktop computer

You have three Ram Memory slots.

EACH ram memory slot's maximum amount is 256MB
Total Maximum Amount for the computer is 768MB.

Uses SDR Sdram ram memory.

[Single Data Rate Sdram. Commonly just referred to as Sdram.

That is a misnomer.
All ram memory from SDR to DDR3 IS Sdram.

Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory.

SDR Sdram = Single Data Rate Sdram
DDR Sdram = Double Data Rate Sdram
DDR2 Sdram = Double Data Rate 2 Sdram
DDR3 Sdram = Double Data Rate 3 Sdram

Just thought i would share ]

Uses SDR Sdram that operates at a frequency rate of 133MegaHertz. (133MHz)
Also known as PC133.

Make sure it is,

A) Non-Buffered
B) Non-ECC
C) Low density
D) CAS Latency of 3 (CL3)
E) Uses 3.3 Volts

Here's an example,

Also stated as PC2700.

Total Maximum Amount of Ram Memory is 4GB.

EACH ram memory slot's Maximum Amount is 1GB.

There are Four ram memory slots.

(DDR is double pumped ram memory. Has a basic clock rate of 166Mhz, which is double pumped to show up as 332. This is rounded off to 333.

Ram issue with compaq presario 5000 G1 Series

as you can see from the information below there are different requirements for RAM to work stable in your system . Most importand are the RAM VOLTAGE , SPEED , and Configuration of chips. you will need to consult the manual for qualified RAM requirements. Some RAM will work but not very stable. make sure the voltage supplied by your system is enough for the RAM. If you are running DDR RAM in dual channel mode, the ram needs to be the same size also. DIMM modules for the HP computer must meet the following requirements
  • The number of pins on the DIMM must match the socket type.
  • DDR memory requires a 184-pin slot and 1.8 operating voltage.
  • DDR2 memory is not compatible with DDR1 memory and requires a 240-pin slot and 2.5 operating voltage.
  • Synchronous dynamic random access memory (SDRAM): Only use DDR type SDRAM memory if the computer came with DDR-SDRAM.
  • SO-DIMM modules for the HP computer must meet the following requirements
    • The number of pins on the DIMM must match the socket type.
    • SO-DIMM memory requires a 200-pin slot.
    • DDR2 SO-DIMMs are not compatible with DDR1 DIMM and DDR2 DIMM memory modules.
    • With a computer running at a system bus of 533 MHz or 667 MHz, use a PC2-4200 (DDR2 DIMM 533) type.
    • The following requirements must be met for the DDR memory to function in dual channel mode:
      • Same density (256MB, 512MB, etc.)
      • Same DRAM chip technology (x8 or x16)
      • All either single-sided or dual-sided
      • Matched in both Channel A and Channel B memory channels
