You could rebuild the defunct drive with the raid program on your server.

i don't know your type and model of your server.

8488 or 8648 and the model 3 digits.

for this you need serveraid manager

http://www-304.ibm.com/jct01004c/systems/support/supportsite.wss/docdisplay?lndocid=SERV-RAID&brandind=5000008

please do not update your firmware or drivers at this point if applicable.

if rebuild of a defunct drive doesnt work you'll need to change the drive. remember in a raid 5 you need min. 3 drives.

if they are hot swap you can take them out and see what drives you have. if you need to change the drive you have to use the same drives and size for optimum work.

ServerRAID-6i Logical drv =1, Others=0 Firmware7.12.13,Status OK Warning:1 Logical drive(s) Offline Warning:1 Online drive(s) defunct

HI, It appears you may have a failed "physical" drive in your Raid set on the server. The system will run fine with one failed drive, but it is recommended to have the drive replaced by it's vendor, or vendor representative. If the 2nd drive in your raid set fails. You will loose your logical drive and all your data on this drive.
You may wish to confirm you have successful, recent backups, just in case another disk fails before your failed drive has been replaced.

In my IBM X226 server 2 HDD became unavailable in RAID 5 configuration. now I have replaced the hard disks and rebuild process is continuing. 1962 operating system not found error message is being shown...

Raid level 5 gives you some redundancy in your raid however it only allows you to lose one hard drive, two hdd lost would not permit to recover from. the parity bit can rebuild one hard drive but not two, sorry your raid might be lost

Ibm x series 226 attempt to install os and says no harddrive

Make sure that the motherboard and/or disk controller recognize the drives during POST.

Then check and see if IBM has a server installation CD-ROM that you can use boot the server and automatically load the correct drivers to prep for the OS install. I have downloaded installation CD ISO files from HP and Dell that walked me right through the OS install.

Another important consideration is that servers frequently use disk controllers that are not included in the operating system's driver files.
For example, when installing Windows OS on a RAID controller you must press F6 immediately after the installation CD-ROM starts up.
Later in the installation you will be prompted to insert a 1.44 diskette with the driver for your RAID controller.

The only challenge is to find the correct version of the driver and get it on a diskette.

I hope this helps.

Xseries 346 wont boot

You don't say whether or not your os is on the RAID 5 partition. Assuming that it is (for performance reasons, this is not recommended) then you should check to see if you have the option of configuring a separate raid configuration on your raid card (e.g. do you have a card with more then one RAID channel?) If this is so, I would create a separate RAID 1 array and install the OS just on that. Then you can mount the RAID 5 array with your data intact. Once you're up and running, you can remove the old OS partition, as it's no longer needed.

Raid w/ hard drive defunct

Well lets make some assumptions
1. You have a Raid 5 System
2. You only have 3 drives in the Raid ARRAY
3. Only 1 drive has failed

To fix the problem you should only need to Replace the Failed Drive
Then start the raid management software or bios
Rebuild the array

If you have more than 1 drive failed in a RAID 5, and still must recover the data it is possible. But very expensive. Still fixable however.
