Vauxhall can provide it for £10 a any main dealer. The code is normally on a credit card sized bit of paper in the vehicles service wallet.

If this vehicle is after year 2000 then the code is only available from your Main Dealer or a Radio Decode Service .

If pre year 2000 quote the 14 character Serial Number beginning with
GM ************ found engraved in the metal casing

This Serial Number is not in the available Philips database.

So this code will only be available from your Main Dealer or a Radio decoding Service

First make sure that the code has not been noted somewhere within the car (underneath the ash tray, glove box , rear of sun visor etc) 

To see if your code is available here for free then the radio will have to be removed from the dashboard (and if you are lucky, someone may have written the code on the casing ) .

If not then POST ANOTHER QUESTION

note: Unfortunately not all radios can be decoded using the Serial Number 

If not then try your Main Dealer ...........or take it into a Decode Service who will plug in a laptop to read/recode the memory chip (EEPROM). This takes a few minutes and shouldn`t be too expensive 

Contact manufacturer and say that you have to disconnect the battery to fix the car. They might make you send it in and charge a fee. Goodluck.

There are 3 ways you can get the radio code:
1. Reference your car manual or the Grundig's manual that came with the unit. Most times, there is a sticker on the manual with the radio code printed;
2. Call/visit the car dealer and explain your issue. You may need to show proof of ownership of the vehicle and/or the radio;
3. Use firms who specializes in this. You can try here, here or here.

If the Grundig is the original radio installed when the Vauxhall Astra was new. there are some unconfirmed reports that the radio code is also stenciled on the metal plate where the Vehicle Identification Number is.
