Same problem, I have a suspicion that it's something to do with the paper sensor on the carriage.

In my case, it only happens when printing black only documents and will also sometimes give me a paper stall error (i belive to be related)

No problems in color printing at all.

My HP 9110 printer starting doing this also - with all kinds of documents, and even when copying. The solution to clean the encoder disc helped and I also vaguely cleaned the rotating carriage. Thanks so very much!

I too had this problem...black prints would not feed properly. the same for fast print qualities.
also, color prints at normal quality wouldnt align perfectly (there would be gaps - white lines - in the print.) the only mode that would work with no problem was color prints at best quality. too slow. recently, the problem became worse and all black printing would immediately cause a paper jam / stall. i had to fix this prob, and found this page.

i just cleaned the encoder disc as suggested by zozo and everything works perfect now.
the disc is a clear wheel with some black alignment figures on it. there is a sensor mounted to read these figures. i wiped both sides of the disc with a slightly moist swab, just to see how dirty it was, and woah, problem solved.

thank you.

You might try cleaning (or replacing if it's really bad) the encoder disc all the way on the left side of the carriage bar. The encoder strip on the back controls horizontal movement while the disc (wheel) controls vertical movement. An alcohol swab is your best bet, though you must have small arms and hands in order to clean it without taking the machine apart.

Despite loading a new cartige print quality is very light

You are maybe printing in "draft" mode which uses 50% of ink by leaving spaces in printout. Go to print driver and set all to default or disable draft mode.

The thread in the bobin isn't comming up too the needle. I have removed the face plate and cleaned it out, but it still isn't working. What could this be?

Make sure the needle is facing in the correct direction
Put the bobbin in the bobbin case leaving a
2 to 3 tail.
Thread the top of the machine correctly, leaving a 3 to 4 inch
tail after threading the needle.
Hang on to the end of the upper thread and use the handwheel to drop the needle.
continue to turn the handwheel to raise the needle. Pull on the end of the needle thread and a loop of bobbin thread should come up.
make sure there is no lint or loose thread in the bobbin area

Why when using word have I double line spacing which I cannot amend. If taken down to the correct level it takes the top of the lettering, very frustrating, please help.

Check the line spacing setting on the page setup menu. I probably is currently set to 1.5 or 2 lines -- this will give you double-spacing between the lines of text.

Also, check the default page style you have. If you click on the page style menu option and view the default settings, you may find that the DEFAULT style has been set to double-space your lines. Make the change and then save the style back as your default.

I have an elitegroup 945PL-A motherboard. When I installed an intel single core processor it works just fine. When I tried a dual core processor the computer would not boot up. Help me....

Ok, you need to clear the CMOS with your jumpers located on the motherboard. You should have a 3 pin jumper. To clear the CMOS place the cap over 1 and 2, leaving 3 open. Restart and go into BIOS settings page and "Load Optimal Settings". Save and exit. If it boots fully, you're good to go. You then need to shut down and put your jumper cap back to 2 and 3, leaving 1 open which is considered Normal Mode. Remember, system MUST be shut off when changing jumper cap settings. Also, here is a link to your Motherboards Manual. Reference page 8 for jumper setting instructions.

Blank spots on page

How far apart are the blank spaces? If they are around 2 inches apart down the page, then it sounds as if it is the drum

HP LASERJET 4250n

This problem is with the fuser. It needs to be replaced. They tend to burn out right in the center leaving a rolling smudge across the page as the unfused toner left on the roller gets printed on the next roll-over.

Printer switching orientation

Make sure that manual feed is set to letter, on the printer front panel. This is a tabloid printer, so letter size sheets are fed long edge. The cassette will print okay because the media size info for the cassette is read by the printer from the cassette cams.
