I have a gateway laptop and it shows that I have no charge in the battery however I can unplug it and use it just fine but it always shows that i have no charge. also the battery LED is red( its supposed to be orange) please help me
There is a smart circuit in the battery. Is sounds liek your smart circuit has failed. This will not affect the function of hte battery at first, but you need to get it replaced. This is how windows tracks the battery life, condition, and keeps the battery at peak condition. There might be a "reinitialization" application that might have come with your battery as well (some high level batteries have this) and it will recondition the battery and reset the logic circuit on the battery. I would highly suggest replacing the battery though if you do not remember having this software package. The logic circuit can not be replaced, and is generally there to keep you from installing generic batteries into the dell battery box. I hope that helps you in understanding what those lights are..

I have the same problem with mine! I talked to Gateway and they have told me to recalibrate the battery. So I did what they said and it tells me my battery is over on it's voltage. I have had them send me a new battery, but now my 2nd battery is taking a **** not even 2 months after I got it.
I have the same problem. It will usually happen when I unplug my laptop after fully charging it. Since I haven't had the time to deal with fixing it I basically deal with it by unplugging and replugging the computer really quickly before it goes into sleep mode; once I have done this the battery will have "fallen out" since the computer does not register that it is even there. Then I just remove and replace the battery and when I unplug the computer the battery will be working fine. I now it is a bit of a hassle but it is an easy solution when you dont have time to lose your laptop while somebody somewhere inspects it for the full problem.
I have same laptop and same probs. if you remove the bat and put it back in the red led will switch back to orange. dont know if you noticed that when led goes red and you uplug laptop from the wall it will go into sleep b/c it thinks the bat is dead.
Well I wanted to come back here and post what ended up working for me. I relize this post is OLD, however someone may find it helpful. I had to update my bios to the latest version and it completely fixed the battery issue. Start with the oldest bios update and install them in order of oldest to newest. Then rerun the battery auto learn program in the bios.
