My component cable is not showing any video.

Hi I have a Sony KDE-42XS955 and am trying to hook up a device (my Nintendo Wii) to the TV I specified earlier in the sentence. I have a component cable that is compatible with my wii and it is plugged into the Wii and the TV's component in ports. Both the TV and the Wii are turned on. So when I scroll through every video on my TV the Wii isn't on any of those videos. Again everything is turned on and plugged into the correct ports, so my question is howcome there is no video?
Thanks for any help-- Evin

Please check that each says YPbPr and not YCbCr for the green blue and red cables connecting them. The two systems are not fully compatible. The C's are the older system.-Ken

Wii in black and white

Picture Is Black and White or Does Not Appear Situation:
  • The console powers on and shows a black and white image on the television screen
  • The console powers on and there is no image on the television

What to do:
  • Determine whether the Standard AV Cables (packaged with the system) or the Component Cables (sold separately) are being used.

  • AV Cables

    • Ensure the yellow, red, and white cables are connected to the correct corresponding inputs on the TV. (How To)

    • Try another set of inputs on the TV, or hooking the Wii console up to another TV.

    • If the TV does not have the yellow, red and white inputs, it will most likely have component inputs which allow standard AV cable use. Try these AV hookup steps. (How To)

  • Component Cables

    • Ensure the red, blue and green video cables are connected to the correct corresponding inputs on the TV. (How To)

    • Try another set of inputs on the TV, or hooking the Wii console up to another TV.

Still Not Resolved:
  • If the television is continues to show a black and white image when powering on the Wii console, then the problem is likely with the system and it will need to be repaired. Please call 1-800-255-3700 so that we may assist you further.

Why cant i get my wii console to work in color

Well it might either be the tv or the av cables that is causing the wii system to be in black grey and white then.

I have a samsung led tv and am trying to hook up a wii. The tv does not have component video - only hdmi and usb. How do I hook this up?

I've never heard of a TV not having component cables (the 5 plug cables: red, blue and green video cables, red and white audio cables). I've seen some newer ones without composite (3 cables: yellow video, red and white audio), but never component.

I find is hard to believe it has no component. I looked at some Samsung LED tv's this weekend, and although they lacked composite, they had component. Are you sure you mean component?

The Wii only comes with composite video cables, so you'll need to buy a component video cable for the Wii to hook it up if your TV has no composite inputs.

Component Cables for the Wii

TV's have inputs on the side and rear. If the TV truly has HDMI, USB and nothing else (which I find hard to believe), then you'll need a cheap home theather 5.1 receiver. Ifyou get a cheap one with HDMI out, it should have a few composite inputs on the backside. A cheap sony one can be had for sub $200. If you hook the Wii into the receiver via composite, and the receiver into the TV via HDMI, it will allow you to hook up and play the Wii (and it may upconvert it too, depending on the receiver).

The Wii will not come in color.

Check to make sure the component cables are hooked up correctly, or you may need another set. Try hooking the wii up on another tv if you have one to see if it's just the cable or maybe the jack where you connect it to on the device it's plugged into (i.e. tv or entertainment system)
Let me know if this helps.

Hi, I just purchased a Samsung series 3 330 model#LN40A330 I'am having problems with the AV inputs on back of television. I hooked up a DVD player to Component 1 it works fine Then I hooked up Nintendo...

I figured it out,
The solution to my problem was to update my video cables for my new HDTV.
I found out through trial and error that I can only have one Anolog device hooked up to the TV because with two Anolog devices hooked up the same way it must confuse the TV somehow making one of the inputs showing up in Black and White, So I purchased the color coded AV jacks and everthing works like a charm now.
