When clothes are dryed on the perm press cycle either reg dry or very dry, they are still damp. I have to run it through 2 or more times to get them dry. I'm told by Bosch that is what perm press is...then what is "damp dry" setting of perm press cycle?

The Dryness Level allows adjustment of how damp or dry the clothes are at the end of the cycle.

1. Make sure the correct Cycle has been selected for the type of fabric being dried.
2. If the correct cycle is selected and the clothes are still coming out too damp, use the Auto Dry Level button (Kenmore) or Dryness Level button to increase the Dryness level.

1. If the highest Dryness Level setting was selected and the clothes are still damp, the Customer Focused Drying Mode settings that are built into the machine can be adjusted.

Dryers come from the factory set to Drying Mode 1 (default). Drying Modes 2 and 3, include additional drying time.
Note: This change will affect ALL Auto Dry cycles.

1. Machine MUST be in Standby mode before beginning. (Standby mode = Plugged in, Power off)

1. To select drying modes, momentarily press the Auto Dry Level button (Kenmore) or Dryness Level button (Whirlpool) again. The dryer will beep, and the display will flash and show the next drying mode number.

1. With the door open and the display flashing the desired drying mode number, press the Start button to save the drying mode and exit diagnostics.

1. Press the Pause/Cancel key at any time to cancel changes and exit from this mode.

Heating and not drying can be caused by 3 different things. I will address all three most common first

- Restricted air flow, usually a blocked vent. If the moisture from the laundry cannot get outside and fresh air in the dryer you will take extra long to dry. Be sure there is ventilation into the laundry room and more important make sure the vent is not kinked behind the dryer and that it is clean and allowing good air flow. You can go outside to where the vent terminates and feel the flow while it is running to check.

- Sensor has build up on it. Look in the dryer drum, inside on the back wall, inside on the front wall, somewhere depending on your model you will two strips of metal about the size of a pencil. Clean those with a little alcohol. Those are what sense the wetness of the clothes and control the cycle. If they get a build up residue on them they do not sense properly.

- The load is mixed, meaning you have some articles that absorb moisture like towels and some light garments that dry fast, the fast drying articles can fool the dryer into thinking the entire load is dry when the heavy articles are not.

AD is auto dry you may need to clean the sensor or you may have a fauilty one ...Auto Dry Loads dried using the Towels, Heavy Duty, Normal, Perm Press, and Delicates cycles will dry automatically at the selected temperature to the desired dryness level. The dryer uses sensing bars to sense the moisture level of the load as it tumbles through heated air. Auto Dry cycles save time and energy and protect fabrics. The estimated drying time will be displayed for about 5 minutes, then the outside of the display will light up in a circular track to indicate the drying time is automatically being determined by the sensors. When the load has reached the selected dryness level, it will continue to tumble, unheated, during a Cool Down period. This helps reduce wrinkling and makes items easier to handle during unloading. The estimated Cool Down time will be displayed. Drying time varies depending on size and dampness of load and fabric type. If the load is too small or almost dry, the sensing bars may not detect enough moisture to continue the cycle and the cycle may end after a few minutes. Select a Timed Dry setting to dry such loads. Room temperature and humidity, type of installation and electrical voltage or gas pressure can also affect drying time. For cycle selection turn the knob on the front of the dryer control panel. The light will illuminate next to the cycle selected. The following is a brief description for what cycles should be chosen for certain items and materials to be dried.

auto dry relies on a moisture sensor to say when its done. so your clothes arent dry enough according to sensor. perm. press. doesnt dry the clothes as much

Clean the lint filter(s) and verify unobstructed dryer exhaust. 99% of the time the dryer exhaust is clogged.

First, make sure your vent to the outside is clean. Second, on auto cycles, clothes should be consistant. If a smaller item keeps hitting the sensor, it will think the whole load is dry. For mixed loads, used timed dry.

Clean the vent hose and vent outlet

First try cleaning the moisture sensors with rubbing alcohol, these are two silver colored strips located inside the drier just below the lint cleanout

On auto dry cycles, the cycle is controlled by moisture sensing bars located on either the rear or front bulkhead, ( visible inside dryer ) if the moisture sensor bars are shorted together (normally by wet clothing) the dryer will continue to run. If the dryer continues to run when the clothes are plenty dry, check and see if there is anything stuck between the sensor bars, (sometimes a metal sequin will cause this) or see if they are damaged. If not, you may have a problem with a timer contact, if the timer advances and stops moving at the same spot each time, I would suspect the timer. If this is an EvenHeat dryer, examine the control board located to the right of the timer in the control panel, for any burned components. Hope this helps.

Our Kenmore dryer had the same sort of problem (different catchy names.

Problem was that in "smart" modes (by what ever name, the timer motor runs in series with a "dampness" sensor (thermostat, actually, I think) and A RESISTOR.

Resistor burns out--this is the symptom set.
