Question about Sony XM-2002GTR Car Audio Amplifier

1 Answer

Amp goes into protect when turned up.

I have 2 Rockford Fosgate RFD2210 10 Inch subs, running with the Sony XM-2002GTR Amp ... I switched to 4gauge wire thinking this would fix the problem samething still occurs.

When turned up the amp will go into safe mode, i had the subs bridged .. then un-bridged samething still occured.

I've double checked my ground, and power wire ... both are tight, and connected well.  Im not sure if i just didnt purchase a good enough amp or what the problem is... any help or input would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Xm-2002gtr amp keeps kicking protect light on

check your amp and speakers and make sure their both hooked up 4 ohm instead of 2 ohm because if you have 1 set of voice coils on your speakers they can only be hooked up four ohm and not bridged to your amp because if you keep trying this you will lock up your speakers if the speakers are only 4 ohm than just hook them up regular to each channel on your amp if your trying to brigde four ohm speakers to your amp it will keep going into protect or worst case scenario you will fry your speakers and you can check your ohm with a ohmmeter trust me my brother owns a stereo shop

Power on/off

solidus- Your amp is going into protection mode, try disconnecting the sub and see if the power will stay on then.If yhe power stays on,it is your sub-blown or shorted ect. But if it does the same as before, its to the repair shop. cooltek Mar,4/08

Rockford Fosgate 800a2 To 2 SVC 2ohm subs

Ok.. Bridge the two sub into 4ohm than bridge to amp.

So. this how it goes.

sub1 + -
to      | |
sub2 - +
=      4ohm

           From Sub
                Two
            -          +
            |           |
amp (L) - + (R)- +

This will use the full potiental of RF 800a2 amp. I believe it like 1153 watts max out.

Protection light

You cannot parallel two subs AND run them on the Bridge. You must have at LEAST a 4 ohm load on the bridge, and 2 4 ohm subs in parallel equals TWO OHMS. BAD!!! Move each sub to it's own channel or your amp will soon fry.
