Having trouble with the blower motor on goodman 3 ton not sequencer or capacitor the blades are ver dirty could this cause it to be slow coming on or hum and then after 1 or 2 minutes comes on but smells like elctrical burn how can the motor betested

This can be due to a dirty flame sensor or a high limit switch tripping. Clean the flame sensor first, this is a metal rod on the opposite side of the igniter, take steel wool and scrub it, then reinstall. If this does not work then the limit switch is tripping due to dirty filter, dirty blower wheel, weak blower motor. Aything that restricts airflow will cause the limit switch to trip.
bad blower motor run capacitor and or motor. Test capacitor or just replace in expensive if dont have test meters. If change motor make sure get new matching capacitor for new mtr.
Either the condenser fan has bad bearings, or it has a defective fan capacitor.
Turn off the breaker to the outside unit.
Spin the fan blade by hand.
If the fan blade spins easily and will spin a few revolutions with no problem the fan bearings are good.
If not, replace the fan motor due to bad bearings.
I am pretty sure you fan motor is bad because with a bad capacitor the fan motor will not get up to speed and may just sit and overheat.
I'm leaning toward a bad fan motor.
Hello, the black wire is your high sped motor tap and it should be on cool as you have it. Blue is med-hi and red is your low speed motor tap. You have it wired correctly. Now the freezing can be caused by 2 things, low airflow or a low refrigerant charge. Low airflow can be caused by a dirty air filter, dirty evaporator coil, dirty blower wheel or the blower itself is running slow due to a weak capacitor. Anytime the motor is changed out the capacitor should aswell. If the airflow appears to be ok then the unit is low on refrigerant.
Hello, a 3 blink pattern indicates a open limit switch. Most of the time a dirty filter, dirty blower wheel, weak blower motor, can cause the limit switch to open.
How do
you test a pressure switch and other limit controls? This is
for people who are experienced with electrical equipment and the use of a Volt
Ohm meter. *Please never by pass a pressure switch or limit control. The
pressure switch and limit switches are there for your safety. If you have an open limit
control either the furnace has over heated or the limit has gone bad. Problems
that would make a limit open up would be dirty filters, dirty evaporator coil
causing a restriction in the air flow or a slow blower motor (check the
capacitor on the blower motor to make sure it is good). A weak blower motor
capacitor will cause the blower to run slow and eventually fail. Pressure
switches, and limit switches can be tested with a meter in the same manner.
With the furnace calling for heat you can test each of the terminals on the
pressure switch to ground to make sure the pressure switch is closed. You should
be getting between 24 to 28 volts from each terminal to ground if the pressure
switch is closed. If the pressure switch is open you either have a stopped up
vent, drain line (if you have a condensing furnace) or bad pressure switch. Please keep in mind there are many
different types. The front
terminal is burnt and discolored. This is a clue that this pressure switch has a
problem.
did you get a motor with the same amps? did you check to what the amp draw is on the old motor to the new? reason is different amp ratings on motors need dfferent blade pitches, also 2,3 or 4 blades pull different cfm. is the motor a belly band mount or does it hang by studs? also check to see if the capacitor is the correct uF. hope this helps you feel free to ask any question if this does not help you.
you need a meter that will measure uf (micro farads) it should read within about 10% of the rating 12.5uf
otherwise you could charge it with an insulation tester (megger) and short the terminals with an INSULATED screwdriver to see if it discharges.
The coil probably needs to be pulled and cleaned with a power washer. Usually what happens is the coil becomes dirty over time and when the filter starts to get dirty as well, it will cause the unit to free up. Also it could also be a little low on refrigerant and when the temps change, it can cause the coil to freeze up. But I bet it is in need of a good tune up and coil cleaning.
Ok, a flashing 3 on a Goodman control board usually means that the pressure switch is tripping. A few things will cause this. One being a restriction in the exhaust or combustion air inlet. The second could indicate a faulty inducer blower motor and the third would be a blocked or bad pressure switch. With the front cover off and door switch taped down, Have a helper turn the thermostat up to 75. You will be watching the circuit board for flashing lights and in a few seconds the inducer motor (the small fan hooked to the exhaust) will start. If this does not happen, we either have a bad circuit board or blower motor. If the fan starts rotating, inspect the hoses going to the small circular pressure switch. Sometimes they may get either water or debris in the hose and not allow the switch to sense pressure. If the hoses look OK, the igniter will glow an orange color and you will see this if you look thru the small viewing port. IF no glow, you could have a bad pressure switch, a bad ignition relay (found on the circuit board) or a bad igniter. OK so if the igniter glows, a few seconds later the gas valve should click open and send gas to the burners. The orange will turn to blue. If this does not happen, you have either a bad gas valve or bad circuit board. Finally if you get flame but it will not stay lit more than a few seconds, you may have a restriction in the burner gas train, a bad gas valve, a dirty or bad flame sensor or not enough gas pressure. Knowing the sequence of operation will give you the needed information to talk with a service technician and cut down on diagnostic costs. Try looking on the back of the furnace access panel for both model number and a diagnostic schematic. This will confirm what the flashing 3 code means for your unit. Sorry, without knowing the model number, this is the best I can do for you. Good Luck!
