My motorola rival phone is doing the same thing! White out!

My phone did the same thing. take it to the store where you got it and they will give you a new one. apparently its happened before with the motorola rivals, something comes loose inside the phone. when you bring it to the store they should give you a new phone for free. but im pretty pissed off, because when i got my new one they transfer only the contacts. im pretty mad that all my pictures, videos,and ring tones/sounds are gone just because of a problem motorola casued.. not me.

1. Take out your Motorola Rival.
2. Look at the white screen of death and tell it Matman says hey.
3. Turn off your Motorola Rival.
4. Plug your Motorola Rival in as if charging.
5. Motorola Rival should now say Verizon Wireless.
6. Thank God.
7. Thank Matman.
Done.

Okay, so I've discovered, having somehow beaten the white screen several times, that a variety of things can revive the phone. I have no idea why they work or sometimes don't work, but I figured you might want to hear about my relative success.
Sometimes, simply turning it off and then on works.
Sometimes, plugging it in to charge it works.
And then, when both these fail, I've found hitting it against a soft surface, like your knee, with medium force so that it's flat on its back a couple times works too. Weird, I know, but true. (Works best when you hit it while it's off and then turn it on again.)

Okay , none of the stuff worked , my phone's screen is gone white & everytime i touch the end button to turn it on it goes right to the white screen , any other suggestions ?

Ive had my phone for just over 6months, and after about month 3, it was telling me that i had an invalid batery...and it was the one that came with it.
Now, it will white out, so i took it to them, and was told that it could be replaced...if i was willng to pay for it. This, naturally pisses me off, being this is not my mistake nor caused by me.
I am not impressed at all with this phone, and will not be getting a new one when my contract is up... i suggest.. that if you are getting a phone... you run away from the Rival. If you find yourself with it in your hands after buying it... be prepaired to "beat it" to get it working again.

I have the same thing happending with my 2nd Rival phone. This is the second time my screen has gone black. I suggest dropping it from a short distance (1-2 inches) flat on it's back. Something is surely loose in there. I noticed it starting going black when I was hitting the back button, but then every time I touched the screen, it would go out during the touch. Anyway, I have a new replacement coming in the mail and Verizon said if it happens agian, they will suggest getting a different model phone. I hope they give me an option similar to the Rival (multimedia phone with a keyboard).

That didnt work on mine...I ended up going to our Verizon store and they are discontinuing them, they have to fedex me a new one since they arent in stores any longer. They are aware of the problem. The guy at Verizon store called it the "rival screen of death". He said they have had problems with them since they got them in. I had to get a replacement but if it happens on this one they will let me select a new phone at no charge.

I've had my phone for about 7 months & now thee screen has gone black, & sometimes the screen will just go dim so I can see it but barely, then it goes out again.. I went to the store & talked to them, but they told me that they would just replace it for $40 when I HAVE insurance on it.! I don't want to pay for another phone, when I never did anything to screw it up. So, I put my phone on the charger then I dropped it while it was off.. When I turned it back on, IT WORKED.!(: So, I suggest that if your screen is being *** that you simply drop it while it's on the charger but off.

Take your Rival out to your car. Carefully place your Rival on the ground in front of your car's right front tire if your car is front wheel drive or in front of your car's right rear tire if it is a rear wheel drive. Then get in your car and start it. Firmly place your foot on the brake while simultaneously flooring the gas pedal. When the engine noise becomes too loud, release the brakes. Once you hear the Rival shoot out from under your tire you are done. Now go out and buy anything but a Motorola product.

My rival is a tweaker like if you blow on the screen the right touch panel dot pops up the contacts and stuff. and sometimes when i hit the touch panel to go to messages it wont work at all. my messages send like 50 times to people. wheni have a menu popped up and i hit end the menu takes for ever to end. matmans method doesnt work. ugh these rival are cute BUT STUPID!!

Ok heres what to do
1.take out ur battery
2.flip it over
3.look at the back there should be a little circular sticker thats white with red x's in it
4.if ur sticker is red with white x's or all red it has water damage.
5.i'm not sure if itz completely true but itz what ive heard

I got my phone fixed (person who asked the question), go to motorola.com and download the motorola updater and download the new software for your Motorola Rival A455. I user this method and it works... for now.

My phone does the same thing, but my bro has the same one and his works just fine, I'm going to to the store to get it changed idk If ill have to pay to get it it changed lets hope not, but I'm not getting a Motorola!!!!

My phone does the same thing, but the screen goes black and i can only see the screen if i have direct sunlight.

My solution was to take the battery out and clean it out using compressed air. Works for me but I do have to do this once a week or so. Seems to be a overheating issue safety shutdown.

Matman you fail... I'm taking this **** to the store and I can only hope they are out of rivals so I can get a better phone.

I had this happen and only the hitting it on the knee worked, just don't know how long it will work for!!?????

Mine did this too! i did nothing wrong, it just did it on its own! i took it to the store and i had to pay to get a new one.

We have 3 Motorola Rival at home, and mine is the only one getting the infamous White Screen of Death, twice now in the last 6 months :(

I take really good care of my phone, but the Rival keeps failing on my.

First time I took it to the vendor and after 3 weeks I got it back fixed, but last only 5 months. I would prefer to give you guys a more tech solution, but in a desperate moment, I tried the "knee trick" and it worked for me; just be patient as I had to hit it SOFTLY at least 6 times and I got a partial screen working, hit it again and I got the whole screen working good.

Hope this encourage you to keep trying and have your phone fix.

Same thing on my daughters phone.but the thing was alive the screen had buzz back when you touched the right areas,it vibrated, just wasnt showing you stuff-white screen. i wated til the screen went off then plugged the charger in and it came to life with the real screen-where it left off.unplugged it then i messed with it and it went to white screen again.plugged the charger in and it just white screened. the held send and end buttons down at same time for a little bit(15-20seconds) and came back onwith verizon start logo, then said charging-which it was.

Matman's solution worked. I am so happy about that. I just hope that this sought of thing doesn't happen again when my daughter is out. She can't carry the charger and plug it in somewhere when she is not home.

I am having the same problem with my phone to I called the company and the are sending me a new one and this one will be my third the screen on my phone will turn white and for a while it would work if i put it on the charger but now it won't work at all

My friends phone has the same thing! I have it and tried the "hitting on the knee" thing, and it didn't work. I will try again and will keep you posted.

Ive been having the same problem as all of you and i really hate it!!!!
im going to take it in the store but for sure DO NOT WANT ANOTHER MOTOROLA RIVAL!!!! do any of you know if i take it in if they will give me a different phone but not for the full price?.

Thank you Matman! Tried your solution and it worked for me (put it on the charger and then beat it against my knee), just hope I can keep this POS phone working until they give me a deal on a new one!

I've had to send my rival back 3 times so far and get a new one, and the one i have now is going sideways already and i've only had it for a month....when the screen goes blank, try removing the battery and plugging it into the charger.

I'm looking to fix this. Will try Matmans fix and re-post
