This model (PY90DG) DVD recorder supports the following disc recording formats: DVD+RW/DVD-RW/DVD+R/DVD-R for everyday video. These should record fine. The RW discs are for repeated recording/erasure while the R discs are once-only recording types - the R discs must be finalised in this deck to make them playable on other DVD players. DVD-RAM discs are NOT supported by this unit. This recorder will play MP3 files on a CD-R or CD-RW (not DVD-ROM) just fine as well, but will not record them.
Best discs to buy for this type of recorder are DVD-R (recommended brand - Verbatim or TDK if you can get them, but not Memorex). These are OK.
Hi
This player can only record on -R / - RW disks.
It could be that you are using +R / +RW disks.
Also disks need to be formatted in machine before they work.

Did you provide the correct model above? The EWD2203 is a DVD player. It can only record to VHS tapes. If you recorded to the -r or -rw discs on another machine, did you finalize the disc? Finalization is needed to make discs playable in other devices. Also check if the disc needs cleaning.
If you are dealing with another DVD recorder, try another brand of disc. Often the manufacturing differences can affect how well the recorder will handle recording to the disc.
See if changing recording speed would help. As far as I know the discs should work. Try the discs that you have burned before on another player just to check if there is something wrong with the player.
Hey,
Maybe the format of your recorded movie didnt support your player..check out your manual for the supported formats and check the format of your recorded movie. If any of the format in the manual matches your movie format then it will definitely play..
please rate my suggestion..
The Alba DVD recorder may not recognise any disc due to one or two of the following reason.
1, the optical pick up (lence) may be dirty or may have gone bad.
2, the cable which connects the optical pick up to the circult panel board may have go borken.
need the model number as some models only use the dvd+ and others the dvd-.
