X-terminals are lost when answering phone calls.

I have used an SMC router (SMC wireless barricade g with built in annex A ADSL modem H02.11g )for approx 3 years. For historical reasons, I have had separate phone lines for voice and broadband but now want to save money by using the broadband line for both voice and data traffic. On my wireless mac (OS X) I connect using ssh to a remote site and from there launch x-terminals (which can display graphics etc.) and I work constantly on these xterms. I am very happy with the service I get from my broadband service provider (BT Ireland) combined with your product - provided it is data traffic only! When I answer the phone on the broadband line, the xterms all disappear the next time I click on them. (If I ignore the incoming call there is no problem). I have contacted BT technical support and they claim it is a problem with the SMC router. Please help! Paddy Mc Carthy.

SOURCE: Linksys Phone Adapter with Router Model SPA2102-R Connecting to Internet

from the cable modem or dsl connection, connect to WAN on the linksys device From PC port to the computer. you will have to make sure if all the port or opened. Normally DATAONE will not block any ports but its always adviceable to check if all the potrs are opened. you will have to put your mac code on the modem. If that does not work you might have to clone your device (information transfer from modem to your device) and you should be good to go...............

SOURCE: adsl modem giving very slow and intermittent internet connection

this is not a problem with ur PC or router this could be in the Filter or splitter that ur ISP gave you, what i would do is call ur ISP and have them run a line test that could be the reason
i work for att. and that does happen ALOT you can also go to
www.speakeasy.net go to the bottom you should see whats my speed or test ur speed click on that and select a server closest to you and it will run a speed test up and download speed

good luck ,

I have a belkin vision N1 modem router connected to the Internet by ADSL and I wish to connect to it a SMC Barricade N with a 20Meter cat 6 cable to improve wireless reception on the other side of the...

Can you clarify the problem?

Consdier first that both devices are NAT firewalls and your ISP probably only allows one address. So you would need to put one behind the other. This may not work like you plan. PCs behind the second will not be seen on the LAN by PCs on the first.

The N1 is a very good router. Consider relocting it to a more central location.

Another trick is to locate it near a central wall if it is block. By adding 1 remote antenna and drilling through that wall witha short antenna cable you can get much better coverage on the other side.

It could also be an ethernet problm 1. Power down SMC, plug WAN of SMC to LAN of router and power up SMC. If both devices show link lights and activity the hardware is OK. If not you need a "crossover" cable.

Hope that helps.

Using the SMC100 Barricade as a Wireless Access Point

use the wrt310n router as the router for the internet (where dsl modem is connected) then just connect the ethernet port (not wan port or internet port) of the SMC to the ethernet port of wrt310n

I need to connect a real router with more ports to it 4-2 pcs

Connect the LAN port on the Barricade to the WAN port on your wireless router. The Barricade should be "plug-and-play",
i.e., no need to configure it. Similarly, the WAN port on the wireless-router is plug-and-play, so it should automatically get an IP-address from the Barricade.

Use an Ethernet cable to connect the network-port on your computer to one of the LAN ports on the router.
Then, start Internet Explorer, and connect to the web-server "inside" the router. Run the "Wired Network Setup Wizard", and then the "Wireless Network Setup Wizard". When you're done, then your "wireless" device(s) (iPod Touch, laptop, XBox360) should be able to make a wireless connection.

Note: no need for any CDs to "install" anything.

Lost connection over wired LAN - wireless OK

A common fix is to re-set the modem. Just unplug the power to the modem for 30 seconds, then re-connect it. You could also bypass the router momentarily to see if the modem is working. Just connect one of the computers directly to the modem to verify connectivity. Your control panel should also have a utility to renew the IP address.

For SMC7904WBRA :: How to use Cable Modem on ADSL router/modem

Looks like your device does not support playing router for cable internet. Would recommend you get an actual router, or alternately if you have a computer with two network adaptors you could plug one into cable modem, plug other in to LAN side of router, then configure turn Windows Internet Connection service, will need to disable the DHCP service on the router. I highly recommend you get a real cable/dsl router to do this tho. Linksys 54g series has been one of my favorites. SMC barricade g and timing out

just a few things that can be checked, firstly in the routers settings look at the transfer speed of the router(not the connection speed) and see if it's set at 108MBPS, if so your wireless network cards on your pc's may only be able to connect at a maximum speed of 54MBPS, unless you have the latest 108 or 125MBPS g type cards. Secondly you should be able to check the wireless signal strength by the icon in your task bar or software you use, as if you have thick walls or objects in the line of the signal from router to pc's, the strength drops and can read low and therefore cause you to lose internet connection entirely. You can also try changing the channel at which the router runs, normally this is channel 2, but trying channel 11, which is the farthest away from appliance interference may give you better results, but both router and network card channel numbers will have to be changed.
