My Kenmore 98702 washer Fills and agitates as expected but stops at the end of cycle failing to drain or spin. If knob is manually moved from drain cycle to rinse unit will agitate but not drain or spin. When in drain or spin unit is quiet making no noise. I would hate to spend a lot of money chasing various potential problems. Any help would be appreciated.

Check door switch: If
the lid switch is bad it will not drain or spin. Try this test: With lid open
let it finish wash cycle. Press lid switch down with screwdriver. Washer should begin draining.
Release switch. Motor should stop. Press
switch a second time. Washer should
start spinning as it continues to drain. If motor doesn't come on while lid
switch is pressed, replace the switch.
This is normal on some machines. Run it through a complete cycle it should fill, agitate, drain, some will drain down so low then start spinning as it is draining but should stop draining before it fills or stops. Check if water is coming in at the same time it is draining. If not it may be ok.
Sounds like you may have a lid switch problem. Without a model number, I really can give you a part number (Kenmore Stacks are made by two companies, Frigidaire and Whirlpool) or a way to get to it. It is right under the lid. Check the top and be sure that the plunger that goes into the hole isnt broke or missing. If you need further help, send me the model number (will start with 417 if its a Frigidaire or 110 if its a Whirlpool) and will try to get you a little more information. The job on either unit isnt that hard, and parts are pretty inexpensive. Let me know. Jim
