I am getting no sound from external speakers when I use my Toshiba
Dyandock with my Sony Vaio laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit. The internal sound/speaker driver is Realtek HD Audio and the internal speakers work fine. The Dynadock, however, disables that internal driver and uses the C-Media CM106 Like Sound Device. When I play music and check the sound devices the CM106 shows that it's playing the sound, only nothing comes out of the speakers. I can obviously plug them into the headphones jack and use the Realtek driver, but I'd really like the use the "one plug-in" option of the Dynadock - if possible. Any thoughts????
Pgeee's solution got me to the right place, even though I have windows 7. For windows 7, go to control panel --> Hardware and Sound --> Sound --> Under the playback tab, select "Speakers" (USB Multimedia Audio Device) --> click "Set Default" at the bottom. This should get the external speakers working, whether they are external speakers or speakers inside an external monitor. When the dynadock is unplugged, the laptop speakers will work again.
If using XP, go to start control panel , sound and audio devices.Under the audio tab make sure the C Media CM106 sound device is selected under sound playback. Then under the volume tab set the volume somewhere in the middle or at the top if you don;t have active speakers . Then Under Speaker settings advanced, make sure the speaker setup is set to Laptop Stereo speakers. Also make sure the speaker volumes are up on the speaker volume button. click ok. If no result check that the cm106 sound decvice was cemented in as I saw it dissaper when I thought i had slected it. I think the key thing here is the device and the laptop speakers setting.
