i have the similar problem. i replace all the ink, and they all print expect the black ink. i cant print in colors, but not in black. that's pretty creepy. my ink is not made by epson, its is some local ink, but it should print because the color ink is also not from epson. its pretty bad and am sad.

why should I replace all the color cartridges when i only want to print a word document? Is there a way around it? Please help.

I feel your pain. I have been getting low ink messages for a while (black and cyan). I have a huge paper (25 page word doc) i need to print tonight, and expected to get a replace cartridge message for black, so i bought a black cartridge, since I haven't printed anything in color in weeks. so I got the replace cartridge message and it tells me to replace both the cyan and black. I replaced the black, but now it won't print at all because it says the cyen needs replacing, regardless of setting it to black ink only. I hate this printer. not to mention the only place open at 2 am only has the three color pack, for almost 40 bucks. any help on avoiding having to get out at 2 am to purchase ink I don't need just to print in the black ink I've already purchased would be awesome.

I'm sorry to say, but I just spoke to epson and the printer will not print unless all cartridges have ink. The black ink only option is only used to extend the life of color cartriges. Just another way for them to get you to buy things you don't need.

You could try taking out the ink cartridge and running the cartridge replacement wizard to put it back in. This has helped with me before!

Black and white not printing correctly, color is fine

If you are not using Epson ink, your printer will do this. Epson printers hate knock-off ink. Always use Epson ink if you want to keep your printer working properly. To solve the problem you are having, try cleaning the ink tubes. Make sure you re-install them properly. Hope this helps. Charlene

Epson CX3810 prints black but won't print colors

Hi, I am assuming your PC is relatively new. You have had a working printer, installed the new printer and ran the installation c.d. If you have marked the new printer.... (go to programs, control panel, printer and open) when open...note the little check on one of the icons. Is your new printer the default printer? To change...right click over the icon, look for the "Set as default printer". Left click this. Now......as for color.....when you place your cursor over the new icon....right click. The box which opens will show printer preferences. Left click this. When this box opens, go to the color tab. Left click this. Look to see if printer is in Color options or Grayscale. G.S. will prevent this new printer from color access.
I hope this helps.....Thank you for coming to Fixya and let me know.......there are some other things to look at if I'm on the wrong path..
