I wonder if this model is meant to receive HD channels in the first place. If it isn't, that is probably why you get that on-screen message. If it has a built in SD digital tuner, then it is not a HD digital tuner/DVD recorder; it would only be SD, hence the message.

It is possibly a limitation of the model, not a fault.

its simple ,HD stands for "high definition" and either your TV or DVD player cant do HD ,these channels will be only screened in HD ,this is why you cant watch them ,you will need to update one or both of them .THANKS for using FixYa

Read the manual first to learn more about the gadget.It must be some sort of a greeting message when you open the gadget.nothing much of a problem there.please elaborate the problem next time.

Press Av button next to HDD button 3 times. The first time selects the built in aerial connection, the second press selects a camcorder and the third time will give you access to a connected HD set top box with all its stations

A lot of your question depends on your DVD recorder, but there IS a way to connect them so you can watch one channel and record another one.

First - if you have an HD compatible DVD recorder (one that will allow you to select channel 8, 8.1, 8.2, etc) then you could simply split your antenna signal BEFORE the TV or DVD recorder. Then you can select one channel to watch on your TV while selecting and recording a different channel on the DVD recorder. If your DVD recorder is connected to your TV's Video Input, you should be able to monitor DVD recorder's activity by selecting the "Video Input" on your TV.

If you DON'T have an HD DVD recorder, then you will need to get a converter box to put between the Antenna signal and the DVD recorder. You can then set the converter box to the channel you want and the DVD recorder can be set to record it.

I believe that the Humax can only output 1 channel and because it has no built in hdd and twin channel capabilty that is all you can record 1 channel (unlike sky +/sky HD) so that means also that unless you watch a different source (like the picture from your aerial (terrestial channels)) you are stuck with having to watch the channel you record
