Press MODE 5 to bring up the equation types. Press 3 for the quadratic. Enter the three coefficients. Press = to see the first root. If the display shows x1 then press down to see the other other root. If the display only shows x then that's a double root. Given the two roots x1 and x2, the factors of the quadratic are (x-x1) and (x-x2).

Given a square matrix, you can find its determinant by using the determinant function available through SHIFT 4 7. SHIFT 4 brings up the matrix menu, and 7 selects the determinant function.

To compute the tangent of an angle, press TAN and enter the angle. Make sure you have the appropriate angular mode (radians or degrees) set first.
Press MODE 6 to get into matrix mode. Once in matrix mode, SHIFT 4 will bring up the matrix menu for further operations. Be careful and don't press MODE 6 again or it will erase all your matrices. To get out of matrix mode, press MODE 1.
