I have on screen disk symbol in left corner a picture of a monitor above it and a flashing white cross within a red circle. its happen ever since i loaded home on my mac. tried disconnecting and it says disconnected on mac then crashes on the tomtom. tried holding for 15 seconds but just reverts back to the same error. please please anyone help
Usually an X on the screen indicates that your GPS (navigation) software is no good (corrupted, etc.).
If TomTom support is not able / willing to help you to download and install the navigation software, you're likely out of luck. If you are able to re-install the navigation software (& map) and you are still getting the X on the screen (of your TomTom device), it may mean that the (storage) memory on the TomTom device is faulty. You can try to connect your GPS to your computer and see if you can "repair" the TomTom (storage) memory (disk). That would usually just block off the bad areas, so that it will not be used. Then try downloading and installing the software and the map again.

Hi, I am back, just got the problem solved, I called their tech support at no charge (866-486-6866, Glen) , really good service.
First turn your firewall off (if you have one). You need to go into your 720 with the TomTom Home software and erase the downloaded software (with the remove items from my device) and reset the device (little reset button under the unit keep it pressed for 5 seconds), place it back in the cradle and restart your computer and than restart the 720 , bring the TomTom Home program up, and when the TomTom Home software in your computer restarts and detects the 720 it will tell you that you need to update the application, if it doesn't than you force the update by going to the add maps option, select items on my computer, select applications and press the add button, when done, go back and to device (option in top of your screen) and select disconnect device, restart your 720 and it should be back to life with the upgraded software.
Hope this helps

try re-setting the unit by the re-set botton on the back or side of the unit depending on the model
SOURCE: my tomtom 1 xl is giving me a memory card symbol
do you have an sd card loaded?
if so and it hasnt been formatted for the tom tom then this can cause your issue, also if there has been an sd card in the device and then removed unexpectedly you will get the same issue.
hopefully this answers your query if so please rate my answer accordingly.
Thanks
