Hitachi 60" tv, more than 7 years old. Lost power. Unplug, repower, I can hear a clicking when I plug it in, the red light comes on for a couple of seconds and then goes out. I've replace the tv, but if it can be fixed for a couple of hundred, I'd use it as a video game tv for my kids. Is it worth it?

I think its a thermal sensor that is stuck open is my expert opinion the powersupply relay would have nothing to do with this. Get a service manual you will see what I am saying.
Hitachi WILL replace the part... My tv is over 4 years old and the light engine went bad. They sent me a new light engine free of charge two weeks ago and now it is PERFECT! When you call them make sure to ask for their superior if you get denied by someone.
If all you hear is a click and you get no display on the screen, it sounds as though you need a repairman to come out and fix the circuit board. There are several things that cause this symptom on your set but the most common are convergenge amp failure, vertical, or power supply issues. Sometimes as simple as resoldering connections. Other times major troubleshooting and part replacement are required. Sounds like a short somewhere in there. I see old pre-HD big screen sets going for well under $200 on my local craigslist, so look there for a good replacement, because the repair will cost more.
Or fork over about $500 for a good used HD projection set.
