Suction/Brush not working

Electrolux Z23042 upright vacume cleaner, why is the suction not working?

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

Is the brush roller air driven or or powered? Does the machine turn on, and there's just no suction through the brushes? Check your belts and also for clogs.

Hi there SmartAlec from NelsonVacuums.com.au here.
There are a couple of common reasons that your electrolux vacuum cleaner would appear to have lost it's suction. The first and most common is that it has actually broken a belt. If the belt is broken the brushes won't spin and it will not pick up dirt. It is easy to test simply turn the vacuum on, release the handle (as if you were about to vacuum carpet) and lift up the head and see if the brushes are spinning. If not i can supply you with a new belt.
If the brushes are spinning then your next most likely cause is that there is a blockage in the vacuum somewhere. Test this by turning machine on and checking the suction at the hose (as if your were going to vacuum the couch) if it is poor then remove hose and fish out blockage. If it is ok you may have a blockage between hose and the brush of the vacuum.
If it is neither of these problems i can trouble shoot over the phone if you live in Australia 0269215200 or by email [email protected]
Happy Vacuuming.. :)

Dirt Devil upright has too much suction.

In a world where most people wish their cleaners had more suction, yours is a rare complaint indeed. Upright cleaners in particular are complaint-worthy as they soon tend to lose suction. It would be good to read more about the reason for your complaint?

Ideally an upright will have enough suction to lift the carpet from the floor a few mm and trap it against the mouth of the brush housing so air can be drawn through the carpet helping to lift out dirt so the brush can work more efficiently. An upright that is working correctly is much harder to push along and as they age they tend to be easier to push as they lose efficiency.

Most cleaners are fitted with at least one filter and they do rob them of suction. Some people remove the filters to improve the suction. Perhaps your cleaner has one or more filters missing.

The brush for my dyson works when engaged in the down position, however, the vacuum turns off when in upright position. I'm not sure if the suction is on when using the rotating brush since I cannot...

Hi there,

The advice we'd recommend would depend on the model of Dyson cleaner you own, which you haven't specified in your question. As a general rule, on most Dyson upright models, the brushbar is designed not to run when the cleaner is standing in the upright postion. However, the suction motor will continue to run, to allow you to use the hose, wand and dusting tools.

If you're concerned about your cleaner, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly, so one of our experts can run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you, and recommend the best course of action. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). We'll look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Jack

Where is the red lint filter that is described in your troubleshooting for lost suction??

It is on the bottom, close to the spinning brushes. It is the red plastic pushed down into the input of the vacum turbine tunnel that utilizes the vacum from the water collection tank to spin the brushes. Make sure that the stem of the master brush is not broken off, after pulling up and out to remove the brush holding container.

Dirt Devil Vibe No Suction

Sounds like there is a clog somwhere. Check the hose - you can undo the hose with a screwdriver but because of that bend use a pipe cleaner or a long wire to see if there is anything blocking the tube. Next check the dirt channels from the bottom of the hose on the Dirt Devil Vibe once the hose has been taken off. Check that the bottom part is clear and then tip the machine over, remove the bottom sole plate (4 screws, 2 at the front and 2 at the back near the rear wheels) to check the roller brush - sometimes if there is an obstruction in the dirt channel from the roller brush suction will not get through.

Dont forget however that there are two filters on the Dirt Devil Vibe. The top filter has to be unscrewed and then unlocked. Tap it a couple of times to dislodge any dirt and then lift out the second part filter at the top of the bin.

Dont forget to rate if this advice works. Thanks.
