Your evaporator coils frost up in normal use and every eight hours or so the entire unit shuts down and the defrost heater comes on to melt the frost. This cycle last about 20 minutes. The melted frost drips into a drain pan and through a drain tube to the drain tray under the freezer/refrigerator where it's evaporated by the condenser fan.

Your drain tube may be stopped up with ice at the upper end because it drains too slow because it's stopped up at the lower end in the evaporator pan under the unit at the floor. It can get dust and mold in it. Once you get the ice out at the top a little pressure with a turkey baster will usually clear it out. Flushing it out with hot water and clorox may help.
Make sure it drains quick enough to prevent refreezing. . The drain should be located below the evaporator coils on the lower back of the freezer.

Water accumulates and freezes on bottom of freezer.

Orange glow is defrost heater and that is normal. Crackling sound is heater heating up area around it, normal. Water and ice build up in the bottom is due to a clogged defrost drain.

Ice in my fridge

Without seeing this I can't tell you a price or exact fault but the first free thing to try that could likely fix it. unplug the unit from the power and leave both the doors open for 48hrs so the unit is 100% defrosted then try again. cheers.

Water build up in the freezer

When your refrigerator defrost the condensation has no place to exit to because of a restriction in the drain and that could be water that has turned into ice or possiably a food partical or foreign object. Defrost it compleatly by leaving freezer door open for aprox. an hour at least make sure ref is level front to back an d you should not have this problem anymore. Please rate me and let me know if this helped. Thanks

Hey my ge profile top fridge bottom freezer is broken

I had the same problem, It turned out to be a bad circuit board ($350). Also check to make sure you don't have frost/ice build up in the rear of the freezer. The fridge draws cool air from the freezer through a vent in the freezer.

Leaking water

Mine just starting leaking also. Water gathers in bottom, then freezessolid. then additional water leaks out. I've check ice maker and door water line. confirmed by turning off water supply. Water continues to build in bottom. I think it might be the defroster. somehow the defrosting water is not draining? Check your out and let me know what you find.

Cannot open the bottom freezer door anymore; it seems stuck

sounds as though the defrost system has failed or the freezer defrost drain is blocked. take off the back panel of the freezer and see if excess ice build up. if so, defrost carefully with a hairdryer. at bottom is a drain. check if blocked with ice and if so melt off with hot water till water flows away freely. if i'm right, appliance will start to work. if fault re-occure then defrost system is at fault
