Listen to hear if the TV is making a buzzing or humming sound. It sounds like you have a bad color wheel from those symptoms. If you hear the buzzing, humming noise that will confirm the issue.
The humming sound is usually indicating a color wheel issue but could also be a fan. The best bet is try to determine which arear the sound is coming from. If non of the fans have that sound then the color wheel would be suspect.
Possibly a shorted relay on the main timer board?? hum coming from transformer being powered with no fan running. With No fan you can hear it hum. shorted power relay on main board.
Yes, its fan noise and you need to replace noisy fan. Let me know exact model of your Sony TV and need to know what fan is producing noise to provide you part number and parts shop info to buy that fan.
Some of the larger TV's are DISH ready, meaning that they have the
tuner inside for SAT TV. The SAT tuners often have an internal fan that
makes a humming noise. If it sounds like something other than that, you
might have a bad component in your sound circuit that allows 60 HZ hum
through the speakers.
If it is a rear projection LCG TV it has a fan in it to cool the
bulb. You will hear the fan if you listen closely. It usually cannot be
heard over the volume.
The fluorescent bulb and electronics inside make humming
sound naturally. Kinda like when you turn on a lamp, and some lamps
make a low humming sound.
