Dont even think of removing the screen.....virtually impossible to reinstall. If you must clean...clean the picture tubes. Blow the dust off the lenses with air spray, then spray a lint free cloth with a lcd, plasma cleaner. Try not to use windex. [leaves a film on plastic lens] . Now pay close attention because the mirror you try to clean is a reflective plastic sheet that can tear easily. Lightly brush a new feather duster on this. Now you can only do this by removing the lower back cover [a hard cardboard material] and dislocate your elbo to clean . You can clean the inside of screen with the feather duster, donot use a cleaner inside the screen or mirror. Relocate the old elbo and replce the lower back cover.

Our air purfier woke me up to a sound of crackling noise. Is that normal or could it be a shortage in the machine.

It could be - if you turn off the lights, can you see any arcing (mini-lightning) inside the unit? If you see sparking, you probably have accumulated dust/dirt inside that will need to be cleaned out. You may also have a crack or hole in the discharge plate(s), in which case you need to replace them.

Let me know what you find.

I have a corded mouse on my PC which sticks and flys to the right

A corded mouse can be either an older style with a ball, or newer with the red light. I have found you can take the ball out and clean the rollers inside with tweezers, they eventually get gummed up with lint and such. If it is a red light, most often my problem is a dog hair or something blocking the light. Tweezers work.

You should be able to access all the menu features from the front of the set. Or keep in mind, you can purchase any mitusbish remote and it will do most things, Just look for format button. I may even have one if you need one. Let me know if i helped you solve your problem. Good Luck. Jay

Cleaning the inside of the front screen

It's not hard but is time consuming

You'll have to pull the front of the unit off to clean the inside. This includes taking out the screw that are open normally and there should be about 4 screws that are behind the bottom-back panel.

When you open the unit just be sure you get it clean the first time and don't leave any stray fingerprints on the glass. And don't touch the projection lens at all. Use compressed air to blow it off but I wouldn't recommend cleaning it unless it is just filthy and the canned air doesn't work for you.

Hitachi Rear Projection TV Flickers Red

No, this could mean a loose connection on crt board(red of course) Look also and check to see if lines going to board are connected correctly. If nothing, then there could be something trying to short itself out on crt board. look for burnt resistors and bad capacitors.

Cleaning

If you go in the back, you can clean the screen from the back without removing it. Be careful not to scratch it. If you have one, try a feather duster first. Also while you are in there, clean all three color tubes, Use a mild cleaner or just water as the lens may be coated and strong cleaners may remove the coating. Ours went 7 years without cleaning and the only question is why we could still see a picture.
