I e-mailed nikon for this same problem. Their solution was to take out the memory card and press the shutter release button in the demo mode. To get to the demo mode you first need to go to custom menu/controls/no memory card?/press ok/ arrow down to enable release and press ok. Now you are ready to try solving this problem. Press the shutter release button to see if it will reset the shutter release button. I haven't tried it yet but it is worth a try.

Check with Nikon to see if there is a firmware update for your camera.

I had exactly the same problem, i tried everything, battery out, sd card out , lens off etc...nothing worked.Completely by chance and irritation i repeatedly pressed the shutter butten over and over
( without the lens attached ) till it didn't react at all.On my LCD i got a normal menu so i put the lens on and bingo it was fixed, still works fine.I think maybe the shutter was out of alignment.
Hope this works for you.

SOURCE: Nikon d40x shutter stuck

The manual (pg 112) simply, and unfortunately, states this message "Press shutter release button again. If error persists, consult with Nikon-authorized service representative".

Some questions that might help: have you had the camera in some extreme conditions, damp, sand, etc. Clean the shutter button really well. Maybe use a small air blower and clean in the shutter release creases.

In the end, if the error continues, it will need to be serviced.

Error .press shutter release button again

did a shoot on friday and came home and downloaded all the pics and then I went to do a shoot today and my camera wouldnt work. When you go to take a shot the shutter closes and then and error comes up and says press shutter button again to release. This opens the shutter back up. The picture it takes is only the bottom half of the object you are shooting....any ideas of what I can do to fix this? I have only had my camera 30 days so I have no clue what it could be.

Nikon d90, blinking "Error"

You "release the shutter" by pressing the shutter release button, often called the shutter button. That's the button you press to take a picture :-)

The camera may or may not return to normal after that. If it doesn't, remove the battery, then put it back in and turn the camera on again. Try removing and reattaching the lens (with the power off). If the problem persists, have a certified Nikon tech look at it.

D40 "Error: press shutter release button again." Nothing happens.

If you can dare servicing youself You can open bottom cover of and turn a little red wheel manually. try pressing the release button now and will start working. If you have this problem re-accuring, then get it checked wih professional.

I have a d 80 nikon and encounter following problem. when i press the shutter-release button i am getting following message error 07. I then pressed again the shutter release button. The same error...

I dont think this is actually an error but,
the "07 is just telling you that the camera is in Raw shooting mode and in that mode you can shoot 7 shots one after the other (with continuous shooting mode on) before the buffer gets full.

See page 140 of the manual and also read about RAW mode settings on your camera.

Cheange the setting from RAW and try taking a pic to see that your "error" goes away.
