Sony STR DE-725 going into ''protection'' mode

My Sony STR-725 goes into ''protection'' mode about 30 seconds after it is turned on. I have unplugged all input devices and the speakers fomr the back of the receiver, but still goes into protection mode after 30 seconds. Any ideas as to how to fix, or is it now e-waste?

I have a Sony STR-DE 597 reciever. I have been using it fine for a few years with no problems and it sounded great. I turn the unit on recently and a message was displayed on the unit that said PROTECT....

Protect will usually show up if the receiver was turned up too loud to the point where the speakers will crackle, the receiver will switch to protect to not damage anything. Unplug it for about 30 seconds and check all the audio wiring in the back to make sure everything is plugged in good and tight and no loose cables or stray pieces of copper audio wire and plug it back in.

When iturn on my Sony STR-DE325 it goes into protect mode

Try disconnecting all of your speakers, and then turn on you unit. If you have a defective speaker, or a short in your wires, your unit will go into protect mode. If your unit seems ok with the speakers disconnected, then turn unit off, hook up one of the speaker leads and try it. This way you can isolate the problem.......

Good Luck,

Sony DE-445 reciever flashes PROTECT

Sounds like a grounding problem. If the ground plug isn't missing or loose try plugging it into a different outlet.

check/replace your speaker wires. If a wire came loose, it will go into "protect" mode and shut down, to protect from a short circuit.

Sony "Protection" mode - STR-DE725

My sony used to do that to umm cant remember the model but yeh i could play it at low volume but as soon as i turned it up it would start clicking and telling me to turn of the power...

I resolved it by checking every cord connected to it, it turned out that because I connected two speaker cables together i didnt seal it properly and they were touching this was making it go into protetion mode.

Stuck in protect mode

Speakers shorted out, blew a fuse. Replace the unit or (cross your fingers and) open up the box and find the blown fuse.
