Power overload with Brother HL-2170W

This is a new printer. I plugged it into my super duper surge protector. My computer and a lamp are also plugged into it. The second thee printer turned on the light and computer went out. Reset surge protector ... plugged printer into another outlet. It didn't effect the computer that I could see but it was making the light flicker.
This is suppose to be an energy saving printer .. can you help ??

We've tried it in a couple of surge protectors and just in the wall socket.. it still makes the light flicker.

It might just have been that outlet in the surge protector is bad when you tried to use it, it might have shorted the system out

when you say light flicked, are you talking about on the printer or like your whole room?

I fixed the drum and error light but i still can't print

http://mycomputerbytes.wordpress.com/2011/11/16/reset-brother-hl-2170w-network-settings/
If printing via network and you have not set a static (meaning it doesn't change) ip setting for your printer, then your ip address may have changed. IF this is the case, http://mikebeach.org/2011/03/02/assigning-the-brother-hl-2170w-a-static-ip-address/
Also, have you updated your printer driver? Be sure to go to control panel, device manager, printer, and then uninstall before installing new driver. Also, uninstall/remove the printer.

Hope this helps.

Frequently power down

1. Power off the printer and computer and then disconnect the interface cable.

2. Power the computer back on.

3. Once the computer has booted, power the Brother machine back on.

- If the computer still reboots, restarts, shuts down, or enters hibernation mode, this problem is related to the power source for the Brother machine and computer. Continue to the next step.

4. If the Brother machine and computer are plugged into the same surge protector, uninterruptible power supply, or power backup device, power everything off.

5. Unplug the Brother machine power cord from the power device.

6. Plug the Brother machine power cord directly into a wall outlet or a different surge protector strip. You may need to use the reset button on the power device.

7. Power the Brother machine and computer back on.

MFC-8710DW has no power

If your Brother machine does not appear to have power, then check whether or not the date and time appear on your Brother machine's LCD. If anything is displayed on your Brother machine's LCD, then it is most likely receiving power. If your Brother machine's LCD is blank, continue to Step 2.
Verify the Brother machine's power cord is connected securely to the power outlet. If you are using a surge protector, extension cord, or power switch, disconnect it and plug the Brother machine directly into the wall outlet.
Please note Brother strongly recommends that you connect your machine to a surge protector.Because To protect your investment against power surges and lightning,
In particular, we suggest that you use a surge protector that is compatible with both standard A.C. power cords and telephone line cords. Surge protectors equipped with telephone jacks will assist in insulating your machine from any power surge that might travel through a telephone line.
If the Brother machine is turned OFF, its LCD will be blank. Please make sure the Brother machine is powered ON by pressing and holding the On/Off or Power Save key. This key is located in the upper-right corner of the control panel.
If your Brother machine's LCD is still blank, connect it to a completely different, known working power outlet. If the Brother machine powers up, then the problem is related to the original outlet.
-OR-
Confirm the power outlet is working by plugging another known working device (a lamp, radio, etc.) directly into the same outlet. If the other device does not work, the problem is related to that power outlet. If a wall switch controls the outlet, verify that the switch is ON.
If your Brother machine still will not power on, please contact Brother Customer Service.

All LED lights flashing on Brother HL-2140, how do you clear it?

Your printer needs servicing due to a fault on its electronics. This is due to a power surge or spikes cause by an abnormality in your power distribution system or your power transmission/distribution lines might have been struck by a lightning during a storm and its breakers have failed to cut the power.

As a precautionary measure, always plug electronic devices on surge protectors.

Send your printer to your nearest Brother Service Centers.

I HAVE A BROTHER MFC7345N WHICH WAS PLUGGED IN WHEN A POWER SURGE OCCURED. NOW THE PRINTER WON'T TURN ON.

youre printer mainboard just got fried. you are going to have to buy a new printer, unless the printer is still under warranty. did you cause the power surge? and did you have your printer plugged into a surge protector strip? remember these things when you go to buy a new printer, get a surge protector strip. not the cheap kind, those arent surge protectors. those are outlet additions.

Printer Surge

I agree with first thought circuit overload.

I dont think it is the printer, I think it is your power supply in house. Just moving it to another socket does not change it from what might already be a circuit with a lot of load already.

You are experenceing surges that are normal operation ie at power on quatz lamp turns on reaching temp of 180 deg cel, then idles, if print command is issued back on comes the lamp drawing power.
