I have a kodak easy share z1085IS and have recharged the appropriate batteries multiple times only to find that it works for 2 pictures and then the batteries die. Yet if I put the same batteries in a different camera, they are toally fine.
Please check what type of batteries are these.
Z1085 will only work with LITHIUM AA's, Lithium CRV3 (you have to make sure it's not Ni-mh crv3) and a rechargeable KLIC 8000 Lithium-ion battery pack (the blue one). It will not work with any other type of rechargeable battery but KLIC 8000. If you're trying to use ni-mh rechargeables, it will really not work.

what rechargeable batteries are you using and what's your method of charging?
If your using a dock for charging - make sure you have the battery pack kodak kaa2hr otherwise the dock won't charge it
if you're using a separate charger - it's ok to use other AA ni-mh
please check the age of your batteries as well.. batts, even rechargeable eventually wear out - they can last up to 300 charging cycles and a year or a little more than that is enough for you consider buying a new set
if you say that you barely use the cam, batteries still deteriorate through time

SOURCE: battery problem
Hi,
For my Z712 I'm using since one year CRV3 li-ion rechargeable.
No problems until now, few THOUSANDS of photos.
I've buy it from ebay.co.uk .
Regards.
SOURCE: new batteries last a couple of hours at most in this camera.
for this camera, I think this model is no longer supported by the kodak technical support, they will direct you only in www.kodak.com/go/camerasupport. to solve this try to clean the metal contacts on the battery compartment using clean lint free dry cloth. try to power up the cam with out the memory card. If this will not correct the problem, my advise is to use recomended batteries for this camera. It is recomended to use Kodak batteries because they are specifically design to power up the camera.

Check the voltage. I think your camera needs 3.7V and the batteries are only providing 3V
This problem is normally due to corroded
battery contacts. Remove the batteries and wipe the contacts inside the camera with a
clean soft cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a fine wire
brush, steel wool, or fine sandpaper). Once the contacts are clean,
remove any specks that may have fallen into the battery compartment
during the cleaning, clean the batteries, and reinstall them in the
camera.
This cures the problem about 90% of the time.
