Before you turn off the key pull the throttle down to idle and wait a few seconds give the gas a chance to burn out of the cylinder
Okay, I had this problem......use only ethanol-free premium. If not available, use a fuel conditioner (e.g. SeaFoam etc) in your gas can. In any case, I add fuel injector and conditioner cleaners occasionally directly to the tank. Also, make sure the power lever is set to about mid position when shutting off. I don't get backfire any longer since switching to premium/ethanol free and additives.
To stop that poping you will have to have a valve job done
I have a yt20k46 husqvarna rieing mower it turns over but wont start ,,its getting fuel to the carburator ,,i put a little fuel in the carb. it ran then died ,,any solutions
Check your float valve, I recently had the exact same problem with a riding mower that was given to me because it wouldn't run. Once I cleared that, it fired up and runs like a champ.
Check your float valve. I just fixwd mine that way. Riding mower was given to me because it wouldn't run. Just 15 mins worth of elbiow great and it runs like a champ.

Try replacing the spark plug and also check the coil wires to see if they may be loose. Also, check the switch under the seat. good luck

I had the same problem a few years back when I purchased a Scag zero turn. The dealer advised me to run at 1/2 throttle when turning off the key. No more pre ignition anymore. problem solved. I also have to shut down my 14hp twin and 24hp craftsman the same way or they exhibit the same issue. Dealer also advised that the newer engines should be run under load at full throttle to avoid carbon buildup. Gotta change with the times. LOL
